Tanzania has officially launched a spirited campaign to support the candidacy of renowned medical expert, Professor Mohamed Janabi, for the position of World Health Organization (WHO) Africa Regional Director.

Prof Janabi, a highly respected cardiologist and healthcare administrator, has played a pivotal role in shaping Tanzania’s medical landscape. His experience spans decades, including his tenure as the Director of Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute and later as the Executive Director of Muhimbili National Hospital.

His contributions to healthcare, particularly in the fields of cardiology and institutional transformation, have earned him recognition beyond Tanzania’s borders.

The government of Tanzania, alongside key stakeholders in the health sector, has begun lobbying African nations to rally behind Prof Janabi.

The campaign has gained momentum across multiple platforms, with diplomatic efforts intensifying to garner regional support.

Tanzanian embassies in various African nations have been tasked with championing Prof Janabi’s credentials, while social media campaigns are amplifying his vision for a healthier Africa.

If elected, Prof Janabi would play a crucial role in shaping health policies, coordinating emergency responses, and driving innovative health solutions across the continent. His appointment would mark a significant milestone for Tanzania in global health leadership.

Community Health Workers are essential in early case detection, community engagement, and enforcing infection prevention measures.

Last week, @wizara_afyatz, @UNICEF, Tanzania Interfaith Partnership, @AfricaCDC and @WHO, conducted an integrated training for 70+ Community Health Workers in Tanzania. The sessions focused on risk communication, community-based surveillance, and infection prevention & control.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to train over 600 Community Health Workers, reinforcing community resilience in the Marburg Virus Disease response.

Wito huu umetolewa leo jijini Dar Es Salaam na Kaimu Mkurugenzi Msaidizi Sehemu ya Elimu ya Afya kwa Umma kutoka Wizara ya Afya, Dkt. Ona Machangu baada ya Semina kwa Wahariri na Wanahabari kuhusu tahadhari dhidi ya magonjwa hayo.

Ugonjwa wa Marbug huenezwa kwa njia ya kujamiiana, kugusana, kugusa vimiminika pamoja na kushika matandiko ambayo yametumika na mwathirika wa ugonjwa huo. Dalili za ugonjwa huo ni pamoja na kutokwa damu kwenye maeneo ya wazi ya mwili, kupata vipele vyenye damu kwenye ngozi, homa pamoja na kuharisha.

Kwa upande wa ugonjwa wa Mpox miongoni mwa dalili zake ni kuvimba mtoki, vipele vyenye maji maji, homa kali na mwili kuchoka. Huku ukiambukizwa kwa njia za kujamiiana, kugusana, pamoja na kugusa majimaji yaliyoguswa na mtu mwenye ugonjwa huo.

Ili kujikinga na magonjwa hayo ni muhimu kuepuka kugusana na mtu mwenye dalili na uonapo dalili zozote unapaswa kutoa taarifa kwenye kituo cha afya kilicho karibu au kupiga simu bure kwenda namba 199.

Pamoja na magonjwa hayo kufika nchi jirani za Rwanda na Demokrasia ya Congo mpaka sasa hakuna kisa kilichoripotiwa nchini kuhusu magonjwa hayo huku wizara ikichukua hatua za tahadhari ikiwemo kutoa elimu kwa jamii pamoja na ukaguzi kwa wageni wanaoingia nchini kutokea nchi zilozoathirika.
