📰SRMA: #Pain and #Delirium Prevalence in ICU
Pain prevalence 44%
Clinically significant pain prevalence 41%
Delirium prevalence 36%
New delirium cases (incidence) 29%
Since 2013 PADIS guidelines, pain & delirium prevalence have fallen - but still ~30%
Prevention of #delirium always presents a conundrum. This review and meta-analysis by Leong et al. in @yourICM suggests that while #pain is an independent risk factor for delirium, so are some #opioid medications. How do we balance risks and benefits?

✅ A day of milestones! I submitted my PhD thesis on reducing persistent opioid use after hip/knee replacement and presented my work to the @Sydney_Uni School of #Pharmacy
Massive thank you to @JonPenm@sidpatan Jenny Stevens & team for this incredible journey 🌟
Evening shift pharmacist was associated with cost avoidance of $1279.57 saved per day even using extremely conservative estimates PLUS a number of 'big time' interventions during the study period @HospPharmEditor

How low can you go? 🧠
OPTIMAL-BP RCT in @JAMA reported intensive BP (SBP < 140) after successful reperfusion worsens functional outcomes vs conventional BP (SBP 140 – 180) in AIS after endovascular thrombectomy🧠 #PharmICU#CPPPLU#NeuroICU

A secondary analysis of the ANALGESIC trial suggests fentanyl may ⬆️ risk of delirium vs. morphine (absolute risk difference 7.34%), but this was NSS. Antipsychotic use was linearly related to opioid dose. Antipsychotic use ⬆️ 45% per 1000mg ME. #PharmICU
