If you are poor and a Communist they will say you're jealous and resentful. If you're from a wealthy background and a Communist they'll say you're a prevliged LARPer. You will never win with those people and you shouldn't try

John called the oath "corny" in the comic where he made his very first appearance. He was created and written as an anti-authoritarian. He always chose his own path that's why his character development was one of my favorit thing to see in Lanterns.
The more I see of comic fans on Twitter, the more I realize a lot of people genuinely don't want good adaptations they just want jingling keys they could look to for references.
