Getting on my soapbox go say AI genuinely has made work for hospitality and theme park workers a hundred times more difficult because why am I being yelled and cussed out because ChatGPT told you we had an entire land that only exists in our park IN JAPAN
I used to write fanfic to build skills. Now I write it to keep them. Building a whole world from scratch isn’t fun or easy, anyone with any amount of writing experience can tell you that. This man seems like a fraud all the way down.
3 sentences in and NO ONE should listen to this clown. Writing at all, even fanfiction, builds skills. Anyone telling you to write less has no idea what they’re talking about.
On fanfiction.
There's nothing wrong with thinking up and dreaming alternatives to famous books and stories . But that's where it should stop. As soon as you decide to write it down -- stop. Don't.
Instead, turn that energy into dreaming of your own book, your own story. Want to change Harry Potter? Write a better fantasy. Capture the feeling you want, but create something else entirely. Why live in someone else's world and cage yourself to using their scraps, their plot holes?
Be free, writers. Be free, readers. You can leap from world to world. Imagine new places and people. Become infatuated with your own imagination, instead of that of others. There are limitless books out there. Find them, read them, write them. Dream bigger, dream deeper.
Maybe it won't be as fun at first, but eventually you'll realize that your mind has superseded the tiny worlds of the Malfoids or Star Wars what-ifs or whatever else is popular. You'll be making your own worlds. You'll be the master. Your magic system. Your characters. You'll be free to defeat the potholes, to create romances, adventures, horrors, deaths. You'll dine on steak and wonder how you ever ate happy meals.
I know this because I started writing with the Eragon series in mind, but I refused to make a fanfic. Instead, I imagined my own world, carefully molding it. It was a terrible book, but it opened my eyes to new ideas, new places, new dreams.
Use your fanfiction ideas as inspiration, but never as the foundation. Build your own foundation, my friends. Sprout wings and fly. The world of stories is endless. Why chain yourselves?
@meieatdust@nachosemmit For posterity, I’ve been to many other countries, the UK many times, and people in real life are normal and don’t do this. Chronically online people do, that’s who I’m clowning.
maybe hot take but I kinda hate discord servers because I always feel so left out while everybody else has fun and talks and I never know how to fit into the conversation and it makes me so sad especially when all I wanted to do is just talk to people and be happy
@sexylesbianbf And people LOVE to tell you to never even THINK about dating until you’re “healed.” As if being fully healed is a thing and as if a romantic relationship can’t facilitate healing. Dumbass cunts everywhere.
“Just reach out to someone.”
Okay, literally every time I do that, it ends in me being told I am “too much,” which is the exact wound I’m trying to heal and so this is not helpful at all.
@obrerx It’s so funny that everyone understands the woman who made herself blind because “I’ve always felt blind” is an ableist freak but the second it’s mental disabilities it’s free game. Almost like y’all are also ableist pieces of shit making life harder for ACTUAL disabled ppl.
@obrerx It’s also 99% of the time INCORRECT and self diagnosed by people with 0 experience other than a 5th grade bio class. Forgive me for not wanting my disabilities bastardized.
@_hxneyglow “Leftists” love getting red in the face about the importance of community, then turn around and say “I’m not your therapist, go be depressed somewhere else to someone who gives a shit.”
i truly need people to learn how to tolerate a little discomfort. we’ll never change anything fundamentally or have any sort of “revolution” of any kind if many of you can’t even be inconvenienced, uncomfortable, or annoyed while vulnerable people are literally suffering
if we want to prevent suicide, actually prevent it, we have to be okay with sacrificing some of our own peace and comfort to make sure vulnerable people are supported. even when they’re difficult to deal with. the concept of “protecting your peace” would need to die
This is why some of yall have no support. Because you’ve convinced yourselves that normal human interaction and friendship is you “demanding too much”. And your “friends” think they owe you no semblance of empathy or sympathy because of it.
As a person who is chronically suicidal:
Your friends are not therapists. They do not have the eduction or the tools to help you and most the time can only offer an ear to listen and a comforting presence.
