Three years, for the worst child sexual abuse material investigators had ever seen.

I’ve worked sex crimes. I have my own worsts, and I can tell you this — no mentally normal human being can truly understand how bad this stuff gets without seeing it firsthand. You just can’t imagine it. It sears into you. It changes who you are on a fundamental level: it changes how you see the world, to know that people can not only do these things to children, but have an eager audience.

For this man to get just 3 years for the types of things he would have been sharing, in a country where you can get two years for a tweet — it’s madness. He victimized untold numbers of children in such vile fashion as to traumatize experienced investigators. The people who went through his collection will almost certainly be offered psychological counseling, and they’ll need it.

Three years.

It’s a joke, a slap in the face to victims and investigators alike, and the judge who sentenced this monster needs his own hard drive examined.

There's concern from some about why the police would come to my home to tell me I have a son. Clearly it must have been because I'd done something terrible. No actually, it's because the other adults I had entrusted her safe keeping to - the school and her dad - had completely failed in that duty.

About a month before the school counsellor had asked me to consider giving us both a bit of space by letting her stay with her dad exclusively for a couple of weeks. I agreed - I was ready to try (pretty much) anything - I did not want my girl to be unhappy, I hoped in the space she'd find understanding that we could disagree but still love.

A month later she didn't turn up at school - neither her dad or the school let me know. The police had been out looking for her all day. They didn't tell me either.

At about 6 that night they came to ask if she was with me. This was the first I knew that there was a problem. I asked if they'd been shown a picture of my daughter - they said "we've had a description of your son". Remember, she was an unmedicalised teenager, she did (and does not) look like any kind of man.

If you can't see the inherent problems with the police looking for a boy, when it's a girl in danger, well I hope you never have to experience anything similar.

The conversion practices Bill will land people like me, and professionals who put the safety of children before their career prospects, in the courts and maybe in jail.

When a Prime Minister resigns, we enter the danger zone as they search for a legacy and introduce poorly drafted legislation.

This week, the Government announced a Conversion Therapy Ban Bill that is so broadly drawn that parents, therapists and even religious leaders could face prosecution for well-intentioned conversations about sex and gender.

Speech is always curtailed in the name of preventing ‘harm’. But stopping parents from talking honestly to their children about the risks of irreversible medical procedures will cause actual, real-world harm. This is a fight we have to win.

NEW: Florida man strikes again by using fake police lights to try pulling over an undercover sheriff’s deputy

Nadi Jabari, driving a black Chevrolet Suburban, activated red and blue emergency lights in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop.

The vehicle he targeted was an unmarked car driven by an undercover Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputy.

Deputies quickly realized what was happening and pulled the man over instead.

A search of his vehicle turned up an illegal police light setup, an extra emergency light bar, and a firearm.

Jabari was arrested and charged with false personation of a law enforcement officer, unlawful use of a blue light, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Professional activist Fae Johnstone’s invitation to “Ask A Trans Person Anything” does not appear to extend to me.

One might expect a campaign promoting dialogue and mutual respect to welcome scrutiny rather than preemptively exclude female journalists without explanation.

Among other topics, I had hoped to inquire about the funding of this cross-country tour, including the extent to which it has been supported by taxpayers.

Although framed as a “refund” in Johnstone’s email below, the tickets were free and I had every intention of attending the event.
