We are live! 🎉 Check out our Italian Paleography website: a digital pedagogical tool to learn & practice how to read & contextualize vernacular primary sources 1100s-1700s https://t.co/4yhdUln3Nv
And this is just the beginning. We're adding new content and features as we speak!
Now available to one & all: a digital archive of 26k early 20thC British #postcards from our collection. Most are "Oilettes," reproductions of oil paintings feat. landscapes, city streets, & children admiring the Union Jack on a figgy pudding. https://t.co/Kf4hnbNxgo
Want to read about The Story of the Vivian Girls, in What Is Known as the Realms of the Unreal, of the Glandeco-Angelinian War Storm, Caused by the Child Slave Rebellion? Help @IntuitArtCenter raise $2K to digitize Henry Darger's 15,000 page manuscript! https://t.co/hSXxat51aq
When I was 16, I referenced a painting I found online to make an oil pastel drawing for a contest. Now, 9 years later, I find that painting again in our Raphael Tuck & Son's postcard collection, and it has me just as enchanted as it did then. https://t.co/evwykJYgzw
@0321_lee@CrowdsourceJM I might try "Alaska, USA" rather than "Alaska, US." Also, StoryMapJS wants to be told specific locations, like cities. The postcards you chose do not have specific locations - if you want to play around with it, I would try adding in random Alaskan cities and see if that works!
@futharkivist @NewberryLibrary Yes, I think you are right! @mrscog58 I do not think this object has yet been digitized, but here is some more information and a catalog record https://t.co/sCmultZgCg - thank you @futharkivist !
@NewberryLibrary Are you able to share some sort of identifying information about this object (like author, call number, catalog record, or link to a digital object)? I would love to know what it is so that I can find it in the collection.
@0321_lee@CrowdsourceJM Great comment! While our internship is voluntary, opting in represents the volunteer choice here - you all are choosing to work on this postcard transcription project. Our public project, Transcribing Modern Manuscripts, offers volunteers many choices! https://t.co/0FCX4fBsuf
@EiyanaF Good question - the subject guidelines page says to check TGM when in doubt https://t.co/5SndIi19Pl. The best dropdown term for this card is Caricatures. I think that other good TGM terms would be Comics and Comic cards.
@gombach_b @VavroskyL @c_lorac@lisaanncurtin@CrowdsourceJM If you are unable to find or read an artist's name, it is best to just omit it! When @ephemerapost and I clean this data, we will likely remove unclear metadata in order ensure that we are publishing the most accurate info we can. Thank you all for your attention to detail!!
@gombach_b Thank you! It always brings a smile to my face when I get to talk to someone else about growing up over there. There are many Ohio postcards in the Curt Teich & Co. collection - I really look forward to seeing them all at the end of the project!
While cleaning some old crowdsourced data, I came across this postcard of a park I used to go to as a child. Seeing this place represented in old ephemera makes me feel grateful for my work, and for digital humanities as a whole.
@VavroskyL @roseholley2 I had the same feeling the first time I read it - I love completing things, and seeing them pile up can be scary. Crowdsourcing seems different because you're not alone, you're collaborating. And together, everyone's impact is huge.
Revisiting this article by @roseholley2 https://t.co/0X6EUmpc56 and thinking about how effective this simple graphic is at visualizing the necessary elements of successful crowdsourcing. #NLDigIntern folks, what's your take?
