For the people who are open to the truth. This is a malicious attempt to paint the scholar bad. He was explaining a verse of war to his congregants. The verses of Surat At-Tawbah are the verses that the Almighty used to lay down the ultimate rules of engagement for a nation in an active state of war.

It seems many people are ignorant today, even the so-called literates. Do you think Islam is a mere religion with no military structure? Islam in an Islamic state is not just a collection of spiritual rituals. It is a complete system, a sovereign nation with its own comprehensive legal, economic, and military codes.

Don’t non-Muslims know that the Quran is the highest source for laws, codes, and ethics of an Islamic state? If God doesn’t tell Muslims the rules of engagement in war, who should tell them?

Or don’t Nigeria has rule of engagement/strategy in active state of war? If the Nigerian military is in an active war, do they drink wine with their enemies?

Why are you people so ignorant like this? Or what kind of mischievous people are we living with?

Back to what the scholar said. The verse is verse 5 in Surat At-Tawbah:

فَاقْتُلُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ حَيْثُ وَجَدْتُمُوهُمْ وَخُذُوهُمْ وَاحْصُرُوهُمْ وَاقْعُدُوا لَهُمْ كُلَّ مَرْصَدٍ

The verse above translates directly to fighting the enemy (Idolators), capturing them, besieging them, and lying in wait for them at every point of ambush.

The Arabic word "wahsuruhum" means to besiege or restrict their movement, which the scholar accurately translated in Yoruba as locking them in. "Wa khudhuhum" means to capture them as prisoners of war.

He was teaching military jurisprudence. This specific verse was revealed during an active military conflict against the polytheists of Makkah.

These were hostile forces that had repeatedly committed high treason, broken binding peace treaties, and slaughtered Muslims. The verse gave the Muslim state the legal right to fight back, capture enemy combatants, and besiege their strongholds.

What is wrong in this? Only if you are a blockhead that you will find the above wrong. Hypocrites.

No Muslim will use this command to enslave or attack non-Muslims in a multi-religious and secular society like Nigeria. Anyone pushing that narrative is doing it out of pure mischief. Or has your Muslim neighbor captured you? Hypocrite.

If Sahara Reporters wanted to be honest, they wouldn’t have cut it because the scholar also did the exegesis of the next verse (6) in that same video.

The reporter who did this hatchet job is an unfortunate person. He is a bigot and a disrupter of peace in our society. The next verse verse (6) clearly states that if any of those same enemies seek asylum, you must protect them, let them hear the word of God, and then escort them to a place of total safety.

You cannot take a scholarly explanation of historical battlefield laws and frame it as a modern call to violence. This stupid agenda you are trying to push will not stand. We know what you are doing.
