You can do this, too. Steps that I took:
1. Find all unused package.json dependencies and remove them.
2. (If monorepo) De-duplicate any dependencies where you see multiple direct versions.
3. Calculate the largest contributors to our transitive lockfile closure from our direct dependencies.
4. Using 3's data, find low risk, high impact candidates that we can upgrade through minors/patches to reduce our transitive lockfile closure.
5. Using 3's data, find dependencies with trivial usage that we can inline.
6. Take a look at e18e\.dev to see if you can eke out any extra removals/replacements.
The above are summaries of the actual prompts I gave to GPT 5.5 (xhigh) in OpenCode to get you started. I ran these agents in the background while I was doing mainline work. Really good ROI. My bet is that if you did this in your repo and gave it real attention, you could end up with much larger reductions.

Still feels surreal getting to share the stage with such cracked devs 🔥
Never did I think open source would be this rewarding when I made my first ever contribution 3 years ago!
PS: This is my first international talk :p
As the year 2025 draws to an end, I wanted to give a big THANK YOU and show my gratitude 🙇 to the @SvelteSociety London and @cityjsconf communities - esp @spences10@arismarko@dan_starns who helped me get into these communities when I was a newbie to London's tech communities in 2022!!
Now I sit in gray and rainy (but jolly!!) Manchester 🌦️, and I'm only able to make my pilgrimage to London's tech communities about twice a year - but I still relish when I'm able to connect with old friends - @onlyspaceghost@cainux . In case you're new to London and want to join an active and friendly tech community - reach out to any of them!
CityJS London is around the corner now. So in case you're interested in joining one of the best conferences in the world, sign up for it by searching for "CityJS London" online as well!
@The_Only_Tails@uwukko Sure but I'm sure if they tried to excercise that then the team would work to move away from Vercel. It's been four years and there is no Vercel specific logic in Kit - compared to Next which you can't use well outside Vercel - and we can see the difference
