Big John Thompson had a great clip about how the sports and business world hated educated athletes...Still seeing this issue showing this with how The Celtics dealt with Jaylen Brown
Welcome to the Family @MankakaMichael Let’s work‼️
Michael Mankaka is a cornerback at Boston College University. We are excited to have Mike as a part of the Family. He worked extremely hard to get to where he’s at in his career. He’s worked hard to earn everything he’s gotten. Nothing was given.
This is shocking to me. Players unions supporting legislation that would diminish athletes’ rights and cap their earning power. I note neither the MLBPA nor NHLPA joined. Really bad look for the NFLPA and NBPA.
The transfer portal hasn’t “screwed up college sports.” Failing to negotiate terms with the athletes (the labor) has made it uncomfortable for certain college sports executives.
Tommy Tuberville’s bill is simple: Place anticompetitive restrictions on athletes and let the rich (coaches, athletic directors, etc.) get richer.
This will “fix” the issues of control that leaders should have never possessed absent bargaining with athletes.
Former Alabama running back Trent Richardson weighed in on Nick Saban’s stance against paying players.
“Honestly, I don’t get why he’s even commenting on it, they gave me and my family $75,000 just to commit, plus $10,000 a month to stay at Alabama.”
How can you recruit one just on projection instead of one who’s proven & has the talent? We are relying on people who don’t have an athletic bone in their damn body to be a “recruiting analyst” for these recruiting sites. Projection & potential don’t mean shit unless it’s applied!! REAL RECOGNIZE REAL. May the real ballers get what they deserve.
This football cycle has been incredibly busy, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent athletes navigating #NIL license agreements, collective deals, and multi-media rights contracts.
I have reviewed, negotiated, and advised on agreements involving more than 30 schools, including Purdue, Kansas, Texas, Iowa State, Florida, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Duke, Ohio State, Louisville, Tulane, Tennessee, Kansas State, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Baylor, Penn State, Washington State, Georgia, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Auburn, Indiana, Arizona State, Kentucky, SMU, Michigan, Virginia, West Virginia, and Alabama.
Additionally, I have handled numerous deals for the Canes Connection at Miami, where the player-first focus continues to stand out.
Each negotiation requires careful attention to detail, which includes scrutinizing broad license grants, pushing back on overly restrictive termination or forfeiture clauses, protecting future mobility in the transfer portal, and ensuring compensation terms align with the athlete's contributions. These are not simple form agreements. They often involve significant leverage imbalances.
The work underscores that experienced counsel is essential in this space. Athletes deserve a thorough review and advocacy to secure fair terms that protect their rights while maximizing value.
Mississippi Could Become Next State to Allow NIL For High School Athletes. It is currently one of 14 in the U.S. that does not permit NIL profit.
