@PureLaith @AMGxVB @FwipsArt So the main regulation preventing prion diseases, aka the ruminant feed act, is still in place and still VERY enforced. BSE, or mad cow, takes years to develop. Most cows are slaughtered before BSE could be transmitted from them. I’d worry about E. Coli, salmonella, etc.

@saaranghaeyo @FwipsArt And every cow that’s slaughtered is tested for that and a plethora of other things. Also we don’t feed cow (or any mammal) parts to other animals in the US according to the ruminant feed act.

@KRO_222 @FwipsArt Yes…in the UK. We’ve had 7 cases in the US, none of which were processed and all of which were entirely random. the ruminant feed act is still very much in effect. worry about african swine flu or new world screwworm before BSE.

@hcazaryy @FwipsArt Absolutely correct! and those regulations are still in place. Google the ruminant feed ban, it’s one of the strictest policies in the US. You can’t even feed bovine bone meal to other mammals.

case numbers are so low because the two main ways to get a prion disease is by chance (rare) and by infection (rarer in captive farm animals due to health regulations still in place). Worry about ASF before BSE.

@JohnHer86924926 I’m well aware of that. BSE is also incredibly rare. What you should be worried about are the newly introduced New World Screwworm. That’s a far more likely threat than a prion disease in beef.

- It’s honorable that you talk about prion-born diseases, but only seven cases of BSE (aka mad cow) have been recorded in America

- I promise you no beef farmer will process a cow with BSE.

you’re more likely to eat a wild deer with CWD than a BSE cow.

@colacolored @EzzyTwink Look at how FEMA is dispatched in northern states vs southern states, or how much aid money goes to areas like california as opposed to north carolina or tennessee. The horrific handling of Hurricanes Katrina and Helene come to mind.
