Nigeria is facing a prolonged wave of insecurity that continues to challenge its stability, terrorism in the North East, banditry in the North West, kidnappings across regions, and violent clashes in different communities. While these problems are often explained through poverty, weak institutions, and local grievances, there is a growing concern that deeper interests may be benefiting from this instability

BREAKING: Edo State Special Court set up by Governor Okpebholo to handle cult-related and kidnapping cases has delivered judgment in its first case by sentencing four suspected kidnappers to death by hanging over the kidnapping of one Precious Oseghale at Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City on June 14th, 2026.

Justice T. A. Momodu found the four suspects guilty on the 11-count charge relating to alleged kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The judge also rejected the alibi defence presented by the suspects, noting that they did not raise it during police questioning.

The four suspected kidnappers are:
- Marvellous Isaac, aged 32
- Wisdom Michael, aged 36
- Rufus Emete Michael, aged 30
- Gift Raphael, aged 27

The special court was established by the Chief Judge of Edo State to facilitate the speedy trial of cases involving alleged cultism and kidnapping, following a request by Governor Okpebholo to the Chief Judge on June 19.

The governor had also vowed to sign the death warrant for kidnappers and cultists convicted under state laws and have them executed by hanging.

“We are going to set up a special court to prosecute kidnappers and cultists. Within two weeks, the court is done with proceedings. I will sign your execution. We will take you to the Ring Road roundabout so that Edo people can watch. I will have no regret about it. Don’t take my simplicity for granted,” the governor had said.

We sincerely appreciate the generosity of everyone who has donated buses and vehicles to support this campaign. But beyond the celebration, Ogun people deserve to ask an important question: at a time when many communities across the state are struggling with serious infrastructure deficits, is this really where so much money and resources should be going?

According to the announcement, over 120 buses and vehicles have been provided to support mobilisation and campaign operations across Ogun State. That is a significant level of resources being committed to political mobilisation.

Meanwhile, many underserved communities continue to struggle with bad or inaccessible roads, inadequate schools, poor healthcare facilities, lack of potable water, unreliable electricity and other basic infrastructure that directly affects people’s daily lives.

There is nothing wrong with political mobilisation, and supporters have every right to contribute to a political movement. However, leadership should also be about recognising the needs of the people beyond election campaigns.

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, YAYI, has built considerable political influence in Ogun State. This is therefore an opportunity for him to ask his supporters, associates and political allies to look beyond campaign vehicles and invest in the communities that need help the most.

If people can mobilise resources on this scale for a campaign, surely similar energy can be directed towards fixing a community road, supporting a school, improving a healthcare centre, providing water or addressing other urgent infrastructure needs.

YAYI should use his influence to encourage those around him to leave a lasting impact on the people, not just a political footprint during election season.

Campaigns will come and go, but the communities will remain.

The people of Ogun State deserve development that reaches beyond political mobilisation and improves their everyday lives. Leadership should be measured not only by the strength of a political movement, but also by the positive difference it makes in the lives of ordinary people. #AskQuestions

Gateway Deep Sea Port Construction Begins in November

We are pleased to announce that construction of the over $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside will commence in November, immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony.

Following the signing of the MoU with DP World MEA FZE in Paris, witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we are moving decisively from planning to implementation. We expect the port to be substantially completed within two and a half years.

This transformational project will unlock the enormous maritime and economic potential of Ogun State, attract major investments, create jobs and position Ogun Waterside and our State as a major maritime hub in West Africa.

We are equally encouraged by the rehabilitation of the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode–Ore Road and the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which will further strengthen connectivity and economic activities across Ogun East.

Beyond maritime development, we remain committed to harnessing the vast bitumen deposits within the Ijebu East axis and exploring the crude oil potential identified in parts of our State.

As a student, beneficiary, and developer of the ‘My NELFund App’, I was very disappointed watching this clip. It is simply a lie and a packaged lack of knowledge coming from someone who wants to become a leader in Nigeria.

I am not surprised that this is coming from you as an ADC youth leader, but I am genuinely surprised that it is coming from a lawyer. The ₦20,000 you are referring to is just the monthly upkeep being given to students, which amounts to ₦240,000 per year. It is not the main loan, it is just a complement. The main loan is the institutional fee, and it does not have a fixed amount. It covers the full tuition fee of the beneficiary student, depending on their school, whether it is ₦70,000, ₦140,000, or whatever the applicable institutional fee is.

It breaks my heart that we allowed the relationship between Asiwaju @officialABAT and Ogbeni @raufaregbesola two men who have travelled such a long and consequential political journey together to deteriorate to this point.

Where were the elders when the cracks first appeared? Where were the voices that should have said, “Ẹ̀yin ọmọ Odùduwà, ẹ má bà a jẹ́” children of Oduduwa, do not destroy this?

Politics is temporary. Power is temporary. Positions are temporary. But the consequences of broken relationships among those who carry the weight of our people’s history can outlive all of us.

One day, all of this politics will end. The offices will be empty. The titles will become history. What will remain is the Yoruba nation and the legacy we leave behind.

That is why this is bigger than Tinubu. It is bigger than Aregbesola. It is bigger than APC, PDP, elections or political camps.

It is about whether we have learnt enough from our ancestors to know when reconciliation is more important than victory.

May Oduduwa look upon his children with mercy.

May Oluwo Nla Jeremiah Oyeniyi Obafemi Awolowo and all our progenitors intercede for us and give our elders the wisdom, courage and humility to repair what can still be repaired.

Politics will finish.

Let us therefore be careful what we destroy in the heat of politics. Some bridges are too important to burn.
