Unsurprised by this. In the 2000s I moved from C-based games dev to business dev. When I used techniques like bitmasks people thought it was insane voodoo. It has only gotten worse since then.
The Crowdstrike situation is a nightmare for lots of people. As a dev I'm hoping there's some solid public analysis of what went wrong so we have a good exemplar to point to when next having "that conversation" about testing/change-management/release.
@rikarends The lack of respect for people's time and attention is depressing. There's no recognition that they're automating lying (the bot posts as a random dev, not as open marketing). Nothing new in spam, but it's unfortunate that AI tools are such efficient multipliers for them.
@GMShivers Yeah, I've done pallet building. It's unskilled labour in the sense that there's no apprenticeship/cert. However, it is nearly always piece-work so the people doing it long-term are very skilled at it because that's how they make it worthwhile. Same for jobs like fruit picking.
@PublicHealthW Hi, can you point me to the actual research from PHW behind the various stories popping up today concerning plans to curb unhealthy lunch deals? Thanks.
Most VR marketing images show people grinning like loons while fllnging their limbs about. What is this person experiencing while draped languidly across their coach? Contemplating some achingly tasteful off-white minimalist geometry floating in their off-white minimalist room?
On a related note it would be nice if services like this that let you use OAuth via GMail/GitHub etc. would flag which service you've connected with in their comms. Like most techy people I have a fair few such accounts and I can't remember whch go with which.
Massive UX error by @observablehq . Signed me up for a free trial of a paid tier without opt-in and I just received a notice of an upcoming $144 payment when the trial ends. Maybe I wouldn't be charged but I still have to go track down the settings and unsub just in case.
@UridiumAuthor Looks like there's a Brief emulation extension for VS Code if you want a lighter editor than a full IDE. I haven't used the extension myself but maybe worth a try: https://t.co/o9a3HGu0zg
One of those code questions that seems dangerous to put forward as an interview exercise without caveating why a "top scoring" answer isn't necessarily the best answer in a given situation. Certainly not something to be used by non-technical gatekeepers.
Test your Python level with this interview exercise!

Move all the zeros to the end of the list. To reach the legend level, you'll also have to optimize RAM usage!
@llamasoft_ox Our local DPD guy used to be excellent. They've changed staff and now they're as bad as Hermes. Had a delivery the other week go hours late then just "Sorry we missed you" and a blank image that I guess was meant to be evidence they went to the house.
