@BeanJuiceStudio 2-3 years. Lots of life stuff came up. And then that little saying familiarity breeds contempt came along and now I hate working on it but refuse to abandon it. I've done other small projects once in a while tho
Ya ever just take so long to make a game you forget the secrets of your own project π not me trying to play test and not remembering how to get certain things done.
I wrote a guide forever ago but it doesn't have everything π #gamedev#indiegame#indiedev
I've mostly finished 6/12 tasks you can complete in my new side project, The Dark Matter Problem. So far, you can submit for a medical scan, adjust gas pressure, water pressure, weld high cycle fatigue leaks, harvest crops, and clean condensation leaks. π§ #gamedev#indiegame
I compiled a small compilation of the tasks, it's not every one I have completed but it's really cool to see it all come together like this...

@BeanJuiceStudio Good work life balance. Reasonable scope.
I've also found that building small projects between the big ones helps keeps things fun and different. Just don't leave the big project behind π

I played for 18 hours over this weekend.
You cannot violently do anything to big fish.
However saying you can't defend yourself against them is disingenuous. Aside from leviathans, the use of the sonic resonator and hand tool does make them back off in most cases.
Subnautica 2 is a pacifist ideology woven into a game.
Players have noticed you cannot defend yourself against attacking fish. Not even in self defense. Only passive means are available.
This was by design. You can't kill anything because the devs feel it would support gun violence and aspects of colonialism:
"Subnautica is one vote towards a world with less guns. A reminder that there is another way forward."
"We want people to feel like they're learning to adapt to the world, rather than being a conqueror or dominator."
"We aren't a killing game. Go play Sons of the Forest or something if you want to kill."
The anti-violence stance got stronger from Subnautica 1 -> 2, which now has a complete "no kill" policy even when the fish can still kill *you*.
It's a long weekend so I was gonna hammer out some scripts and get some progress done for one of my mini projects.
But I played Subnautica 2 for 18 hours instead. π
Managed to get about 5 scripts for 5/10 tasks done, so... progress. π
@Shyguymask99 Fear holds you back. No matter what you make or do someone won't like it, and even if you capitulate to every request, someone still won't like it. You can't please everyone and that's okay. π
