Meet two of our speakers at OpenInfra Days Kenya 2026: Paul Mayero and Sharon Koech, who will give a talk together.

Paul is a software engineer and open-source contributor at F-Droid. Sharon is a Technical Author in the @OpenStack team at @Canonical where she works on the @Ceph documentation, and she co-leads the OpenInfra User Group Kenya.

Their talk: S3 server on your Android device.

The price of computing devices keeps rising, and tinkerable hardware like the @Raspberry_Pi is in short supply because of the AI chip race.

But there is a good chance you already own a capable computer: an Android phone, maybe an old one sitting in a drawer. Android runs on over 5 billion devices, and underneath it is a customised version of Linux.

Paul and Sharon will show how a typical Android phone can be configured as a general purpose Linux server and run an S3 service, using Garage, an open-source S3 tool built for low-resource devices.

You will learn about Android configuration and about running Garage.

If you know what an Android phone is, want to run S3 on one, and like to live a little dangerously, this one is for you.

Partnership announcement!

Perfectroot , a cyber security community, is joining us as a community partner for OpenInfra Days Kenya 2026.

Open infrastructure is only as strong as the way it is secured, and security is one of the eight tracks at this year's event.

Sessions will cover protecting AI systems, enforcing compliance as code on Kubernetes, and securing the open source supply chain.

We are glad to have a security community alongside us as we put these conversations in front of the people who build and run the systems.

OpenInfra Days Kenya 2026 is happening on 6-7 November at Node NBO, Gigiri, Nairobi, under the theme Building Africa's Digital Sovereignty with Open Infrastructure.

Meet one of our speakers at OpenInfra Days Kenya 2026: Ayoade Adegbite. And he is traveling all the way from Nigeria to be with us in Nairobi!

Ayoade is a data engineer and analytics engineer who is passionate about building reliable data platforms, scalable analytics systems and developer-friendly engineering workflows.

He works at the intersection of data engineering, platform engineering and AI-enabled automation, and has designed modern data platforms on open-source technologies, from data pipelines and metadata management to data quality and business intelligence.

His talk: Data Reliability Engineering: What If Your Data Pipeline Had an SRE?

A pipeline can finish successfully and still deliver incomplete, stale or unreliable data.

Ayoade will show how reliability principles such as freshness, completeness, availability, monitoring and incident response can be applied to data pipelines, and how treating them as production systems changes the way we build and operate them.

The question is no longer "did the job succeed?" It is "can the people who use this data actually rely on it?"

This is also the only DevOps talk on our programme, so if you work in DevOps, SRE or data, do not miss it.

Bethwel is a software engineer and the co-founder of Crezine Cashdoor

He is an active community leader who works to empower African developer talent, and he is known for practical, high-energy, demo-driven talks on software engineering, the latest developments in modern AI, and how to get the most from the tools and services in today's ecosystems.

His talk: Fork it till you make it: A blueprint for getting started and community engagement.

If you are new to open source, curious about how to get involved in a community, or looking for a clear first step, this one is for you.

Meet one of our speakers at OpenInfra Days Kenya 2026: Belinda Ntinyari.

Belinda is a cloud and DevOps practitioner focused on building and explaining practical cloud infrastructure.

She works with AWS, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, Docker and software development, with a particular interest in automation, maintainability and developer experience.

She is an AWS Community Builder in the Serverless category and contributes to the cloud community through technical sessions, mentorship and hands-on projects.

Her talk: Your Infrastructure Has a Story: Using Docs-as-Code to Make Cloud Systems Understandable.

Behind every VPC, database or deployment pipeline are decisions about architecture, security, trade-offs and how the system should be operated.

Yet documentation is often written after the fact and quickly goes out of date.

Belinda will show how documentation can live alongside infrastructure code and benefit from version control, code review, automation, architecture diagrams and decision records.

What should good infrastructure documentation answer?

What does the system look like, how is it deployed, why was it designed this way, what happens when something goes wrong, and how can another engineer safely change it?

If you are a developer, cloud engineer or operator who wants systems that others can understand and take over, this one is for you.

Meet one of our speakers at OpenInfra Days Kenya 2026: Yvonne Kajee.

Yvonne is a Security Operations Center (SOC) analyst whose work goes beyond blue team duties.

She has also worked in red team and governance, and she sees the changing security landscape as a chance to protect systems in new and effective ways.

Think about it. Almost every organization has an AI model running to some capacity.

When a new system or app is being implemented, the question is often "what about AI?" And while all the integrations are happening, we get a new, largely unknown and often overlooked threat landscape.

AI has already created gaps that malicious actors have exploited, and there has been a recent, entirely autonomous AI attack. We are busy protecting systems, but who is protecting the new brain?

Yvonne's session makes the case for investing in protecting our AI, because protecting it means protecting the business.

If you work in security, AI or IT leadership, this one is for you.

Speaker #2 for #OpenInfraDaysKenya 2026: Bala Grivine

Bala is a systems engineer building open source, high-performance storage engines. He's into database internals, storage I/O, and the engineering trade-offs behind reliable, performant infrastructure. ⚙️

His talk:
Making Durability Cheaper: Engineering a High-Performance WAL 💾

In an ACID database, a transaction isn't committed until its changes can survive a crash or power failure. Write-ahead logging delivers that guarantee, but making every transaction durable can turn the WAL into a bottleneck for write-heavy workloads.

This isn't a list of WAL tricks. Bala shows how reasoning about I/O, concurrency, batching and durability semantics can turn an unavoidable cost into a scalable part of the transaction path. 🚀

Into databases, storage, or how systems stay reliable under load? This one's for you.

🎤 First speaker announcement for #OpenInfraDaysKenya 2026!

Meet Nelson Ngumo, DevOps & Cloud Engineer at @MPESAAfrica and co-founder of @Eve_OpsOfficial (Everything Operations), an East African cloud community mentoring the next wave of engineers.

His workshop:
Policy as Code for Data Protection: Enforcing Kenya's DPA with Kyverno & Sigstore 🔐

Kenya's Data Protection Act expects safeguards built into systems. But on most Kubernetes clusters, compliance still lives in documents and audits.

Nelson will show how to turn those obligations into enforceable, testable code with a fully open source pipeline: Kyverno, Sigstore Cosign, Syft & Trivy.

Live demo: a non-compliant deployment gets rejected, and the audit trail is generated automatically. ⚡
