Over the past few weeks I have had the pleasure of interacting with brothers and sisters from all over Africa building solutions for the motherland.

@ianktoo is one of them.

He has built Crea - an emergency response application. But he didn't stop there, he took it one step further by building tafsiri - a pipeline that scores every output for trust, not just fluency. Because in an emergency, a wrong translation can cost more than no translation at all.

That he chose Babel as the engine behind that work is an honour. But what moves me more is the instinct - a builder already asking the hardest question there is: can this be trusted with a life?

This is exactly why we built @DarajaAI. A bridge is only worth building if people cross it. Ian crossed it, and built something of his own on the other side.

Kenya still has low electrified economies.

However the strongest long-term electrification drivers in Kenya are likely to be:
1. electric cooking;- especially due to depleted forests and increased knowledge of environmental protection.
2. electric mobility; technology will reduce the cost of EVs.
3. industrial growth,
4. digital infrastructure/data centres,
5. renewable energy expansion and falling prices of Solar/Wind/BESS technologies

We are live at the Blockchain Centre NBO for the Kenya Ai Challenge 2026 pre-hackathon workshop.
Today, builders are taking their first deep dive into Neo4j and graph databases as they prepare for the June hackathon. The focus is on how connected data and AI can be applied to better understand the complex systems shaping smallholder agriculture in Kenya.

In collaboration with Mercy Corps AgriFin , DirectEd Development , Neo4j , and Lovable , this workshop is creating space for practical learning, experimentation, and collaboration ahead of the challenge.

We are also joined by an online audience, extending participation beyond the physical venue and bringing more builders into the conversation as we build toward the June hackathon.
