We are a student led design team at Virginia Tech whose goal is to build a rocket capable of putting a small cubesat into Low Earth Orbit.

On April 14th, 2024, Skipper 1E was successfully launched and recovered twice! The vehicle flew twice to over 2107 feet above ground level on a J460T-14A at speeds of over 400 feet per second. Looking forward to the flight of Skipper 2 this coming Fall!

Today is National Near Miss Day. In 2016, an arresting cable broke as an E-2C Hawkeye attempted to land on USS Eisenhower. The Haweye plunged off the end of the deck but the pilots managed to recover and were later awarded the Air Medal for their skillful actions.

Skipper 1 reached a maximum altitude of 3,043 ft and a maximum velocity of 290 mph on an AT-J615 motor! Telemetry capture was smooth and our new in-house manufactured components worked like a charm.
