Played college lacrosse in the 80s, coached HS lax in the 90s/2000s, now enjoying the golden age of college lacrosse as a fan. Yale lax/Celtics/Sox/Bruins/Pats.
@DartmouthMLax Congratulations to Coach @Ajaxzap4 -- he's been successful at everything else in lacrosse, no doubt defensive coordinator will add to the list.
@tpender11 What's the meme response to the fact that the pitching coach is the head coach's daughter? Is there a hilarious nepotism toilet paper bear meme? With all due respect to the fact that cameras catch a moment, not a relationship, that particular moment played poorly. YMMV.
@UVAMensLax@CoachCassese Guys. This feels thirsty, or if you want to go Shakespeare: doth protest too much. Among other things, giving Cassese credit for "helping develop" Shellenberger and Cormier -- that's just silly. Three NCAA appearances in a not-very-strong league in 16 years? Mid at best.
@tevlin166 Also as we know the best ND lacrosse player in recent years was Big Game Brian Tevlin! (His NCAA run with ND after his Yale career was magical.)
Sean Lyght won because (a) he has always had name recognition as the son of a prominent NFL player and thus always got much more attention than defenders like Gavin Adler; and (b) with no truly dominant attack guy, voters wanted to show it's not "attackman of the year award."
@tevlin166 I was wrong on the family relationship; 1st cousin not son. But it got mentioned a lot. Part of the narrative. Lax media love any connection to football and basketball. Does he win if his last name is Smith? Maybe (but the jury is out). But, he won! Twitter be damned.
@ByMikeWilson I think it's quite likely somebody said it (you can see a woman covering her hand with her mouth and passing Pannell just before she reacted) and Pannell incorrectly (and recklessly) accused the head coach of saying it.
@TreyWallace@sportsiren Well that one coach did cover her mouth surreptitiously. Clearly something was said! What a hilariously middle school move (but crummy from an adult).
@EmbracePaceUVA It's because of hacking and ransom operations. Talk to Ivan and Danya in their ransomware boiler room in Eastern Europe if you have a complaint.
@TomZwiller A great cover guy who has benefitted by playing in front of a PLL goalie and an AA level goalie. He won because of name recognition (NFL dad) and no offensive player could separate himself. Good player, good person, not the end of the world that he won.
@LacrosseNetwork@uncwlax Tewaaraton voters are lazy. Humphrey was clearly the best individual player by a relatively significant margin. Taylor a great player, happy for her accomplishments, but she was not the best individual player in 2026.
@College_Crosse An elite cover guy won't have the GB or CT totals, necessarily, but the bigger issue for me is that Lyght's always gotten juice from name recognition; that he's not better than Zappitello or Adler; and that Palumbo should have been a finalist.
@dan_aburn_ Good prediction. Plus Todd Lyght has the name recognition of being the child of a highly regarded NFL player. I think the real issue were the finalists: Croddick or Palumbo should have been a finalist over Duffy. Lyght great but not Gavin Adler or Ajax Zappitello great imo.
