@Godvicval1 Enerharo and Akintola moved the motion for Independence in 1953 and 1957, both attempts failed. Fani-K (Snr) attempt in 1958 was successful and April 1960 was proposed as the independence day, but Balewa asked for an extension in 1959 and the Union jack was lowered on Oct 1 1960
@Kizaro47@nwoko_greg62705 Baba , Ogundipe was a lone ranger .
COAS, Gowon betrayed him .
Col Adebayo had to pledge allegiance to Gowon ,so that he could be rewarded with mil administrator of western region .
Obasanjo wrote in his book " my command " that Ogundipe " did not belong "
@bode_maxwell@nwoko_greg62705 Soldiers (NCOs) refused to take order from him . Gowon , who he sent to Dodan Barracks to talk to the coupists , returned as the new supreme commander . I can only blame Ogundipe for not resigning his commission , when things went haywire
@nwoko_greg62705 Ogundipe did what any reasonable solider in his position would have done ; walk away . He had no loyal troops to take on the coupists . Gowon , who initially was on his side , betrayed him and took side with Muritala and co.
