Today marks two years since my daughter passed away from Type 1 diabetes complications.

­She was 35 years old.
­
­A severe low blood sugar sent her into a coma a couple years earlier; the damage later led to kidney failure.
­
­I rarely post about this. Grief is part of my life, but it's not my entire existence, so I try to stay focused on my faith, family and awareness.
­
­Type 1 diabetes often starts in childhood. It’s autoimmune... not caused by diet. Kids face daily danger from low blood sugars that can cause seizures or coma, plus long-term risks like kidney failure.
­
­Watch for signs in children: extreme thirst, frequent urination, sudden weight loss, fatigue.
­
­If you love someone with T1D: continuous glucose monitors, glucagon, and education matter. Early autoantibody screening can help.
­
­I honor her by knowing the risks and supporting families who live this every day.
­
­I actually never thought this would be what was happening in my life today when I look back. 💔
