@Stewchat Comparing pure numbers like this is no good if you don't consider the "effort" involved. You may have trapped every day in 2013, and only once in 2023. Use average per trap, you then have much better comparison rate (I'm sure I'm teaching you to suck eggs here though, sorry!)
A brilliant @BritGeoSurvey Birding Group trip out @RutlandWaterNR yesterday where we saw 56 species including the antics of 3 juv Ospreys and their parents, Marsh Harrier and had a great intro by the team at Lyndon Reserve. Many thanks to you all.
Tony's really bringing Derbyshire Mothing into the 21st century at last. Any of my network that isn't connected to Tony please do so to ensure that records are collected, updated, and reported on.
The inaugural @BritGeoSurvey Birding Group outing took place today at @RSPBLangford. Hobby, Marsh Harrier and a Barn Owl were highlights along with 4 Common Terns, 5 Common Gulls moving south, Black-tailed Skimmer and Brown Hawker (forgot to take photos of people!)
it's been a while...
after the recent hiatus, we're back up and running in time for (hopefully) a busy autumn.
so please do tag us into your bird sightings, and we'll do our best to keep you up to date with the latest bird news from the county

Pair of Red-crested Pochard at Long Eaton GP this morning takes my Derbyshire yearlist to 86 @Derbyshirebirds cheers to @clive_prescott for finding them yesterday!
@BirderAlrewas@Derbyshirebirds@DerbysWildlife After all the hard work and effort that's gone into bringing Beavers into Derbyshire, and making the reserve more accessible (that's what we need by the way- more people interested in nature) it's disappointing to hear you say you don't support what DWT have done.
Did you know that when a borehole is drilled the information gained is often only used once?
That is changing with the addition of a new requirement to the #Construction Playbook that will enable greater access and reuse.

@doug_aston@SpinneyBirder@birding_buxton@OrridgeSteve @DaNES_Insects It was setup by Ian Gardler, a mother from Alvaston, he got me involved shortly afterwards but it really took off during COVID when more people were looking for moth info. Great to have you onboard!
@doug_aston@birding_buxton@OrridgeSteve 1/2 - Doug, there's a VERY active Derbyshire Moth group on Facebook which are turning up all sorts of records, and who REALLY want to talk to @DaNES_Insects about recording, status updates for species, embracing modern technology etc.
@allyfarrelly@thetrainline Have the same issue booking Notts-Harrogate. Go to book a ticket and tells me it's no longer available. Go back to look for tickets, and the price has gone up by £1. Strange coincidence!?! What's happening @thetrainline ?
@BirderAlrewas @DWEmley10 @Derbyshirebirds Yes, sad state of affairs in Derbys with the loss of CR, and no communication on how a replacement is being found. Irecord is good, and the only recording route to allow others to find your records. I'd support @DWEmley10 suggestion. Looks like you had a good night too!
