'I AM NO LONGER CONNECTED WITH THE OVP'
Atty. Michael Poa, former spokesperson for the Department of Education (DepEd), clarified that he is no longer connected with the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
"I am no longer connected with the OVP. 'Yung consultancy contract ko po was already pre-terminated," Poa said at the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability hearing on Tuesday, November 5.
In an earlier hearing on October 17, Poa was questioned about DepEd's confidential fund. He confirmed he had no involvement in its use, noting that only Vice President Sara Duterte and DepEd Senior Disbursing Officer (SDO) Edward Fajarda had access to the fund.
The hearing stems from a privilege speech delivered by Manila 2nd District Rep. Rolando Valeriano on September 3, titled "Asserting the Power of the Purse of Congress," which raised concerns about the OVP's budget utilization.
This inquiry also responds to the manifestation of Batangas 2nd District Rep. Jinky Luistro during DepEd's budget hearing, which highlighted issues such as the department's failure to deliver computer units in good condition and other concerns over budget management.
