Here are really great teaching prompts to engage the students from the beginning of the lesson. Asking open-inquiry questions about the Geography topic of "the importance of place" will allow you to access the students prior-knowledge first #UoNTeach#placesandpeople
I thought the same Jordan. There is definitely a need in our community to promote more sustainable practices simply by understanding how different places function in our world. Let's make students understand Geography and support our local environment recycling more. #UoNTeach
I 100% agree. I think putting the student first is at the foundation of it all. Let's allow students to experience all Geography lessons in a student-centred learning space where they can collaborate and engage together. #21stCentury#UoNTeach#Studentsfirstalways
Found really great activities for Geography students on the importance of changing landscapes and places. Getting students involved in the outdoors through interact ICT resources is a great start to promoting the importance of different places in our community. #UoNTeach

@samevan80179760 Agree! There is definitely a need for more sustainable living awareness for students. Let's incorporate #EarthDay into our local schools and inform students about the best ways to protect the environment. What are some ways we can achieve this goal? #UoNTeach
@samevan80179760 That great! Incorporating #21stCenturylearning into a sustainability activity could be achieved by introducing students to the yellow recycle bin in the classroom or creating a whole-school compose bin. Heres a useful website I found as a starting point https://t.co/wApHupHrgH
Sustainability and Geography are interlinked with the concept of saying YES to an ecological, clean footprint. In the classroom, I aim to instill my positive recycling habits into the students lives so they can also say YES to less landfill and a cleaner Earth #EarthDay#UoNTeach
@Lindle98192700 Great idea Lindle! It's such a graphic image that will engage the students from the beginning of the lesson and get them to focus on key ideas that you may wish to explore later. I would also incorpoate open discussion at the start to promote creative thought. #UoNTeach
To celebrate #EarthDay 2019 on 22 April, @NASA is sharing how they #PictureEarth through a collection of some of the best and most iconic satellite images and data visualisations. Read more ahead of #MotherEarth Day >> https://t.co/V4MhAm5HVP #ClimateEducation
@Jordan74266812 It definitely does! These activities would include getting students to engage with interactive Geography-based apps in an outdoor environment where they must draw what they see on an iPad or creating their own world maps on school computers. #UoNTeach#Ipads#21stCenturyLearning
What a great way to incorporate ICT use into a Geography lesson!
Providing students with the opportunity to first research different places and landscapes on our earth allows them to lead their own learning pathway.
I've learnt that interactive apps are great ways to engage students in the world of places and changing environments. In future, I aim to make the transitions from paper to ICT resource as it will ensure students gain a deeper understanding of mapping and globes #UoNTeach

In future #Geography K-6 lessons, I will include a range of picture books related to changing "places" to broaden their knowledge of different places in the world as well as further develop their English reading and comprehension skills. #importanceplaces#UoNTeach
Reflecting on Geography as a whole I plan to incorporate a range of teaching strategies, including picture books, hands-on task, interactive ICT apps and active play as it promotes a love for different places in our world #UoNTeach#geographystudents#21stcenturyskills
@Jordan74266812 Best way to inform K-6 students about sustainability would via activities such as creating a vegetable garden in the school. This will ensure they develop more meaningful and first-hand experiences of sustainability in a real-world context. #UoNTeach#Environmentandsustainability
@Jordan74266812 Social media is a 21st Century tool that can be utilised in the classroom environment under the correct guidelines of practice. However, teachers need to explain to students what social media is, what forms it takes and how to gain reliable information from it. #UoNTeach
What a great teaching idea to engage the whole school in a range of interesting and contextual relevant books! Incorporating the topic of Geography into the book selection could be one way to immerse students in the significance of places. #UoNTeach#Importanceplaces#Books
@Jordan74266812 Thank you, that's such a great idea! I think interactive, hands-on activities are the best ways to engage students in the topic. #UoNTeach#Treecycle#Geographylessons
What a great way to promote the natural wonders of different geographical landscapes. Exposing K-6 students to a range of positive tree facts will encourage them to create a more ecological, sustainable footprint in their local area.
Say YES to trees everywhere!
@Jordan74266812 I think that involving the parents/guardians is crucial for providing a "sheltered setting" for the child as it will give you more insight into their home environment. In the classroom, having age-appropriate terminology to allow students to first develop a basic understanding.
@Jordan74266812 Those are really great ideas! Reading outdoors can create change in many ways including making students consider the books context, characters and meaning by aligning the book with a similar setting outside #Outdoorreadinggroups#creativeminds#UoNTeach
@Jordan74266812 The outdoor learning environment can come with a high price in most primary schools. Are there any budget-friendly teaching ideas that can be incorporated into the outdoor space and why are they effective in today's 21st Century learning? #UoNTeach#2stCenturyLearning
