This year, I am seeing more jamun (Indian blackberry) fruits in the markets than I have ever seen in the last thirty years.

The fruits are literally raining down from the trees. Even trees that bore only a few fruits last year are heavily laden this season. Trees that usually produce well are dropping an even more abundant harvest.

Why is this happening?

My grandmother used to say:

“If jamun trees shed unusually large quantities of fruit during summer, there is a higher chance of drought that year.”

Two engineers saw this gap and built NoKasa, an app where you can book a pickup. An agent comes to your home, grades your clothes on the spot, and sends cashback via UPI immediately.

They've already kept 1 lakh garments out of landfills. Such a good innovation to keep cities clean.

Never seen so much pessimism regarding India in my twenty years of studying macro and markets. Not in 2008, 2013, 2020.

AI is a positive for India. There is absolutely no sign of Indian service exports slowing down in the latest data. If a $20k guy in Pune is to be laid off, a $200k guy in Philly is even more on the chopping block. If anything giving them both the latest AI reduces any competence gap.

Regarding AI supply side, Sarvam etc just received more investment and we are continuing to work on the semiconductor side. Second/third mover advantage on the cheap is not a small thing here. Actually, AI has in part negated the platform winner-takes-all economics of US Big Tech by making it capex-intensive. Of course national security considerations remain.

The rupee is extremely oversold. The gold/silver import restriction moderate measures have just kicked in. Ex-gold we have been in significant trade and current account surplus for many years.

US 10y is now 4.6%. Gas and mortgage rates are off the chart there. Rising long-end of the yield curve and rapidly rising AI capex theme both cannot go on together for much longer.

We have to be patient: my view remains India is by far the world's greatest investment opportunity amongst the major themes available today. Of course as part of a diversified asset allocation so that we can live another day to be wrong if needed :)

Advanced Agni missile with MIRV (Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle) system was successfully tested from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha on 08th May 2026.

The missile was flight tested with Multiple payloads, targeted to different targets spatially distributed over a large geographical area in Indian Ocean Region.

A humid evening in 1929 Calcutta. While outside, protestors are burning British cloth, inside a small house, Gourmohan Dutta is sweat-drenched, manually churning a white paste in a tin pot. He is not making a cosmetic; he is making a statement. He is proving that an Indian can heal an Indian.

It was the miracle cream of a blockaded nation. He created a scent so distinct that it became the smell of an Indian home, a fragrance that carried the defiance of the Swadeshi movement into every 1st-aid kit in the country.

In the 1920s, the Indian pharmaceutical market was a playground for British giants. If you had a cut/a burn/dry skin, you bought British ointments. Gourmohan Dutta, a successful merchant in Calcutta who dealt in imported cosmetics, saw the hypocrisy of it. He was selling the very products that kept his own people dependent.

In 1929, at the height of the Swadeshi surge, Dutta did the unthinkable: he stopped importing & started churning.

Dutta did not have a factory at 1st; he had a home lab & a handheld churner. Assisted by his wife, Kamala Bala, he experimented with a blend of Boric Acid (the Boro) & Lanolin/Oil (the oline). He sought guidance from the legendary scientist Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray (the father of Indian Chemistry), ensuring the cream was not just patriotic but scientifically superior.

He chose the Elephant.. a symbol of strength, prosperity, & the deity Ganesha. In rural India, where people could not read the brand name, they asked for the Hathiwala Cream (the cream with the elephant). It was a branding masterstroke that bypassed the English language entirely.

On the day India gained independence, G.D. Pharmaceuticals (Dutta's company) did something unprecedented. They took out ads in major newspapers announcing that Boroline would be distributed for free to celebrate the end of the Raj. 100000+ tubes were handed out. For Dutta, the cream was not a commodity; it was a celebratory salve for the wounds of a newly free nation.

To his descendants, Gourmohan was the patriarch who built a 150+ crore empire from a kitchen churner. But even they might not realize the depth of his stubbornness. He refused to change the fragrance/the sticky, thick texture for decades because he believed the identity of the product was its effectiveness.

For 3 generations of Indians, the scent of Boroline is the Smell of Nighttime. It is the smell of a mother’s care & a grandfather’s discipline. We do not realize that every time we open that green tube, we are interacting with a 95 yr old piece of revolutionary history.

They say there is only 1 thing Boroline cannot fix: a broken heart. But for a nation that was broken for 200 yrs, Gourmohan Dutta’s little green tube was the 1st thing that made us feel whole again.
