More confusion for the people expected to make it work.

Ontario’s new attendance policy was announced without proper consultation or clear direction for schools. Now, with questions piling up, the Minister’s answer is to leave key decisions to principals and local judgment.

That is exactly why local decision-making matters.

At the same time, this government is trying to severely restrict local bargaining and move more decisions to Queen’s Park.

Teachers, education workers, and local school communities understand what their students need. The government should respect their expertise instead of centralizing more control while leaving them to sort out poorly planned policies after the fact.

• Teaching English Language Learners (Part 1, Part 2, Specialist)

Opportunity includes:
· Remote work from Oct. 2026-Apr. 2027
· Some evening & Sat. virtual meetings
· $6000 stipend
· Serve as the lead on one course and collaborate on the others in the subject

Who we are looking for:
• OCT-certified OSSTF/FEESO Members
• 5+ years teaching experience; subject experience and/or leadership an asset
• Specialist or equivalent experience in the course area
• Experience with online courses and adult learners a plus

Our priority is clear: meaningful bargaining that delivers for teachers, education workers, students, and their families.

Instead, negotiations have stalled as the Ford government pushes to move local issues under provincial control.

As #OSSTF President @marthahradowy told CBC News this week, this is part of a troubling pattern of centralizing decision-making at Queen's Park.

Our members are heading back to schools focused on what matters most: supporting students and strengthening public education. The Ford government should be just as focused on meaningful bargaining and addressing the challenges facing our schools.

JOINT STATEMENT: Minister Calandra said he was confident new collective agreements could be reached by the end of summer.

August 31 has come and gone, and more than 275,000 teachers and education workers are heading into the school year without new contracts.

The problem is bigger than missed timelines. Ontario’s publicly funded education system is under immense strain, and the Ford government is trying to take even more decision-making away from local communities and concentrate it at Queen’s Park.

Together with our education affiliates, we are calling for respect for the bargaining process, meaningful negotiations and real action on the challenges facing students and education workers.

Another Ford Minister on the gravy train:

In one year, Piccini expensed $50,000 for restaurants, hotels and a limo using donor and taxpayer dollars from his Riding Association.

Piccini is Ford's Minister of Labour who handed out $800 million taxpayer dollars to Conservative friends and donors—including $10 million to Ford's friend who owns a strip club for "staff training" in the Skills Development Fund scandal.
