@Light6476842792 @UchePOkoye Like most Hotel of that Era, Empire Hotel ( own by Chief Kanu) has a band that was led by EC Arinze but the influence of that orchestra band came from Bobby Benson that started with his own band in the late 40s and strutting between hotels such as Empire, Lido and others.

@HowardKech @Voiceofigbos Afrobeat was more of revolutionary song that is anti-establishment whereas highlife is a social event genre therefore playing time on some stations was limited. Victor Uwaifo was able to transform what he learnt playing for Victor Olaiya.

Forays of E.T Mensah from Ghana also helped to mold highlife. Osadebey and C. Ukwu were protégé of S Amechi and they burst unto the scene in the 70s
