Today marks National Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day. It was designated in part to honor the work of the late HIV activist and Ohio native Reggie Williams. It is also designated to highlight the gap created between the care African Americans receive compared to European Americans.
Since 1985, this gap has resulted in disparate outcomes that have yet to be eliminated. In recent years, we have learned more about the importance of addressing factors like racism in healthcare towards the health outcomes of Black clients. It is no less necessary in HIV care.
