Thanks to Farm Strategy and food companies they have engaged in research downstream from the breeding work, simplified ingredients for bread products are well within sight. Additive replacement with natural flour from Ox varieties takes time to optimize and then implement.
Andrew Hoelscher, founder and president of Farm Strategy, gives meeting attendees an update on the three OX varieties to come out of the OSU wheat breeding program - Breadbox, Firebox and Paradox.
And if the mentioned varieties in this post do not succeed, try the wsm1 variety, Breakthrough, a product of K-State, Colorado State, and #okstate#wheat breeding programs.
Genetic resistance is an important component of a good integrated pest management strategy for wheat streak mosaic complex control.

Grad student Ashton Boehm raises a torch of OK21PS821 spikes - a late, tall HRW beardless wheat for grain/graze-out/hay/ensilage acres and alternative to triticale. Incredible July standability and grain quality, derived from Big Country and Deliver. On to @OSU_OKFoundSeed
Experimentally we call this one P57. The later one is P92. Both have outstanding bread baking quality and will be targeted for more southerly and more northerly environments, respectively. Both pack a healthy punch of life into every slice.
Moved on to an @osuwit exp variety. An (HPW) yes that is Hard Purple Wheat. This is the early maturing one. I have a bin full and waiting on my trailer to return. Hope to get this one knocked out before dark.
Able to cut this afternoon in Perkins with Massey, moisture is higher than I like, but can put in bin with some air. Looking at latest forecast decided better get it in the bin. Not what I want to do but playing the cards that are dealt. @okgenetics Big Country #Wheatharvest2025
@OSU_OKFoundSeed Leaf spotters, leaf rust, stripe rust, wheat streak, and acid soils can be a real nemesis in HRW wheat. Not so with these guys. Orange Blossom CL+ takes everything good about Dstop and makes it…blossom.

High Cotton v Showdown
Yield: 54.4 v 50.0 bu/ac
Test wt: 60.6 v 58.7 lb/bu
Consider High Cotton as a genetically divergent alternative or as a replacement.
@OSU_OKFoundSeed@QShieldknight Agree, for WSMBand TMV. Yield and test weight very competitive even in absence of those viruses in the panhandle. More options go to OFSS after 25 crop season.
@TXSmallGrains@OSU_OKFoundSeed Much to digest from this data, but one item stands out in the variety Breakthrough. It is possible to package strong WSM/TrM resistance (from gene Wsm1) with high yielding ability for the High Plains.

Drought is the proverbial red-haired step-child of hazards...severe weather gets all the pub. As a no-haired step-child, I'm still envious of course, but drought is still chugging away up in far NW OK! Rains falling after 7am on Tuesday's go on next week's map. #okwx#okmesonet
