Goes almost without saying that I think the IRGC should be listed as a terror org. I've long advocated it.
But it's important that any such listing exempt those forced to serve against their will. Slogans are important in pushing policy, but so is nuance.
#IRGCterorrists
@kshahrooz Tnx for being our voice. My husband did his conscription 32 y ago with no control whatsoever on choosing where to serve. He's paid a heavy cost for this bad luck, 3 decades later, with being separated from his family. Pls differentiate conscripts from those joind IRGC voluntarily
We, victims of compulsory conscription, stand in solidarity with victims of compulsory hijab and all other compulsory things imposed on Iranians over decades. We have been suffering from being aparted from our families due to compulsory conscription forced to do 30 years ago.
This was amazing. This is exactly what we wanted. To aim for those responsible and exclude #FormerIRGCconscripts. I salute you Mr. Trudeau. Thank you.
@PierrePoilievre and @ctochor if you were involved in this, thank you.
@Pratyush_Dayal_ This unjust rule has caused even worse situation for Iranian-Americans. It has separated husbands, fathers & brothers from their families. We have been calling on US government to distinguish between conscripts and IRGC staff for a long time. We just want to live a normal life.
Some have not been able to say the last goodbyes, others are losing foreign work opportunities. Almost all have been through an enhanced screening where small kids are also searched. “Second-class citizens in Canada” is the resonating sentiment among all. https://t.co/FjhK9i1TAP
