MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE
A doctor’s experience.
The word “negligence” is used a lot, especially when something goes wrong.
But let me speak to the part most people hardly ever talk about.
Consider this scenario.
Friday:
I admitted a child.
Evaluated him.
Started resuscitation immediately.
I explained everything to the father, the diagnosis, the urgency, and the need for surgery.
The mother wasn’t available.
But the father understood the situation.
Saturday morning:
He wasn’t there.
I called multiple times. No response.
I stayed in the ward for over three hours waiting.
Then, I had to leave to cater to other patients, so I escalated it.
By 8 pm., I met him on his way out.
He said he had been around since 3:30pm.
Sunday:
Same pattern.
This time, he picked up.
I told him clearly:
Saturday morning was the best time for operation.
After resuscitation.
Before deterioration.
I needed consent.
I needed investigations.
I needed blood.
He wasn’t there.
By the time he returned Sunday evening, there were multiple obstetric emergencies.
Monday morning:
He arrived early and became upset when the surgery couldn’t happen immediately.
Eventually, things were rearranged.
By the grace of God, the child did well.
But the question that bothered me is this:
What if he didn’t?
You already know what would happen.
“Doctor was negligent.”
“Hospital killed a child.”
For every story you see online,
there is another side.
We don’t always tell it.
But we always carry it.

Givairo Read (19)
Following the performances of Matheus Nunes at right-back for Manchester City, they can comfortably look at talented younger players with a little less experience who can be given the time to settle into the team and the Premier League. The progression of Nico Gonzalez since arriving in January is an apt comparison here.
The shift you’ve seen from Akanji and Ake at full-back to O’Reilly and Nunes illustrates a change in what Guardiola is looking for, towards those who can tuck inside during the buildup and fly up the touchline. Givairo Read can do both. Compared to his compatriots, Read combines the stability of Jurrien Timber with the fleet-footedness of Jermie Frimpong and the final third impact of Denzel Dumfries. The latter being one of his idols.
"Dumfries is a player I really look up to. We are similar types of players. The way he drives forward, that's something I'm trying to take from his game. Sometimes when I'm watching his matches, I see him do things that I can see myself doing. He is always getting goals and assists!"
Explosive over the first few yards, aggressive defender and efficient tackler. Times his slide tackles well. Makes good use of a strong arm to prevent dribblers from getting separation and disrupts them. Not a player dominant in aerial duels yet, but he has plenty of physical development ahead of him. Different story for ground duels as Read can more than hold his own.
Those same quick feet make Read difficult in press, especially moving inside to small spaces, or trying to dribble up the touch line. Helps to set his feet well before shots inside the box or providing a cross. Capable of cutbacks to the top of the box, floating balls to the back-post or driving one inside the 6-yard box.
Passing range is something to work on, shows plenty of flashes of switches, driving balls in behind, and a chipped cross from the middle of the pitch, but not consistently. Most of his best progression down the flanks comes from his running capacity, to find a player inside, and make the runs ahead of the ball. Then drive himself into the box or make a cross.
Read was born in Amsterdam, starting his career with AVV Zeeburgia and eventually moving to FC Volendam in 2017. On the 19th of March 2022, he made his debut for Jon Volendam in the Tweede Divisie, becoming the youngest player to play for Jon Volendam at the Dutch 3rd Level at just 15 years and 290 days. One year later, he made his debut for the first team.
"When you see how Givi picks things up, how he trains and how he plays, that's extra enjoyable for me.” - RVP
The following summer, Read moved to Feyenoord, signing a 3-year contract and credits Robin van Persie for convincing him to join, who was the co-head of the club’s U18 and U19 team at the time. Made his debut for the first team under Arne Slot in February 2024 and his full debut in September later that year. Going on to become the main right-back over the course of the 24/25 season.
"I'd seen footage of my opponent, Rafael Leão; he's one of the best in one-on-one matches. To be honest, I was unsure how to handle him beforehand. From the warm-up, my confidence soared. Then I heard our fans screaming, which gave me motivation and confidence.”
One standout moment for Read was his CL debut in the knock-out phase, added to the squad, to play against AC Milan. Needing to defend against Rafael Leão. Feyenoord won the tie before losing in the following round.
"One hundred per-cent, they thought: 18 years old, not an international, he's going to make mistakes. Luckily, I didn't let myself get distracted."
He did briefly swat away Hernandez's hand, which was teasingly stroking his head.
"It was a reaction of: you shouldn't do that. Leão started spitting in front of me. I laughed, I thought it was a bit childish. Doing that to an 18-year-old boy? I just find it funny, actually."
”I didn't fight back, and I'll never be like that—a troublemaker. I don't have time to argue with opponents on the pitch. I have to focus on my game. I never talk to anyone on the pitch except myself. When things go wrong, I talk myself up. That's how I keep myself awake. I got that from myself.”
Another standout moment for Read was winning the 2025 U19s Euros as captain of the Netherlands. The same tournament had Stefan Mfuni playing for England, Said El Mala (linked to City) playing for Germany, and the best player of the tournament, Kee Smit, playing alongside Givairo Reed.
Last season, Read started 22 games in the Eredivisie, scored two goals and provided six assists. This season with Feyenoord, Read has been named vice-captain despite being just 19 years old. 9 starts and three assists so far in the league.
"You always have to get back, you can't let your defence suffer. That requires not only fitness, but also insight and communication. I have players around me who coach me well."
If we’re looking at moving on Ake, freeing up Khusanov to play entirely as a CB and have Read come through as the backup right-back with time to bed into the league, I’d be a big fan of this move. Given his age, Read pairs well with Matheus Nunes as the starting right-back at the moment. Looking to work his way into the team in time.
He does need time to develop more physically, become more secure in possession moving inside, and scale up to the Premier League, but that aside, Read ticks all the boxes IMO. Should it be another right-back, I’d imagine the profile will be similar. Let me know your thoughts below.
So, my supposed long distance"girlfriend" who I haven't seen in over 6 months consults me about her missing periods and sarcastically, I asked her to do an hCG and turns out she had long ago done it before I asked 😂 and it turned out.....1/2.
