Last expedition of the school year!! I am never happier than when I am sharing this city I love so much with students who are discovering their own passions for art, history, and literature as tools for social justice. #MVHarlem#ExperientialLearning
Proud of this work and my wonderful students. Shoutout to Lyndsey, Olivia, Autumn, and Giselle for their beautiful and powerful reflections! #MVHarlem#ExperientialLearning https://t.co/bmR7k10paT
A reflective morning at Riverside Church, a tour of the Apollo, & a scavenger hunt for Harlem Renaissance artists at the Met to round out our last day @MVHarlem. I couldn’t be prouder of this group for embracing the experience with such genuine curiosity and joy 🥰
And a HUGE thank you to @MJGriffinII for enduring these action-packed marathon days and documenting the trip with aplomb. Literally could not have done this without you ♥️ #thankyouforbeingafriend
1st full day for #MVHarlem 2023 has been beyond perfect - gorgeous weather, new friends all over the neighborhood, fawning over rare books @SchomburgCenter, & a group of kids who were not just tolerant but excited to walk 5+ miles w/ me & @MJGriffinII. Next up:an evening of jazz!
AP Lit students explore archival research contextualizing Toni Morrison’s Sula @EmoryRoseMARBL - an incredible ATL resource! Proud of their insightful questions and connections, and always happy when I get to spend the day at the library♥️📚📖 #readingisFUNdamental
HMW best acknowledge the original Indigenous stewards of the land we learn on everyday? To kick off their research and design process, academic writing students explore native flora & historical artifacts at @ATLHistCenter. #ExperientialLearning#LandAcknowledgment@TheMVSchool
Always love seeing students connect to past & present social justice movements @Ctr4CHR. Today we are holding Buffalo in our hearts while researching the EQ “How might we better promote ‘justice for all’”? #MVPSchool#ImpactReady#ExperientialLearning
@ga_googer and I were honored to have Thanatologist @coleimperi as a guest speaker in Macabre Lit today! She shared her thoughts on death & dying practices, staying grounded through loss, and how to see grief as a gift. Learn more: https://t.co/STmzs3z1b6
The Atlanta Preservation Center is fortunate to have partnerships with @werdradio100 & @GKCRE.
We were able to give a tour to @MVPSchool of the Sweet Auburn Historic District & spend time in these spaces to better understand the role of historic preservation.
Students in our course And Justice for All spent yesterday morning exploring Sweet Auburn Ave. We talked history, culture, music, preservation, ATL's civil rights legacy, and our role in the "beloved community." Love teaching hands-on history w/ @NUTINBUTburNET! #mvpschool
