Caught fan of the show @StarlCone between talks rocking some exquisite face foliage. If you're a fan of E. Coli be sure to catch his talk Monday at 1030 in 516B. Great work sir!
#evolution2024#Evol2024
Behringer lab is on our way to Montreal with an exciting lineup of talks and posters for #Evol2024!
We are also recruiting Postdocs who are interested in bacterial mutation rates, experimental evolution, transcriptional regulation, and/or adaptation to resource limitation!
5 years ago I attended my 1st #ASMicrobe meeting in San Fran as a grad student poster presenter where I met my future post-doc advisor, @megbehri. Now, I’m back at #ASMicrobe in my home state and speaking in a great session! Come check out my talk! #fullcircle#growth#5yearplan
The Behringer Lab at Vanderbilt is looking to hire a research assistant! A great position for trainees interested in microbiology, evolution, & genetics while gaining experience in anaerobic cell culture, experimental evolution, & genome editing.

Hot off the presses! 📰📰
E. coli evolution in repeated 100-day Feast/Famine cycles is out in @CurrentBiology!
We see high mutational order, extreme parallelism (nucleotide level!), & early mutations can ⬆️ fitness simultaneously for growth & survival!

Preprint Alert! 🚨🚨🚨
Exciting collaboration between my group, @MarcBoudvillain’s group and @bpbratton!
From populations experimentally evolved to extreme feast/famine cycles, we find pH-sensing rho alleles that confer pH-dependent plasticity in transcription termination!
Honored that our work was awarded the Zuckerkandl Prize by @JMolEvo. This was a terrific effort by Postdoc @sb_worthan and former undergraduate Robby McCarthy! A must read for anyone who performs lab cell culture, is interested in plasticity, or collects fitness measurements!
Good Morning!
I’m excited to share our study in #mbio led by PhD candidate @StarlCone investigating 6mA evolution in E. coli! 🥳🧫🧬
Carl developed an R package (CoMMA) for differential methylation analysis of 6mA, so you can analyze differential 6mA too! https://t.co/leYuknqQqc
August is already off to a strong start for the lab!
Great presentations by postdoc @sb_worthan and Ph.D student @owenmicro at their respective GRCs! 🙌
Awesome poster by summer undergrad Briana Harness! 👏🧫🩺
Now, a ESI-MIRA NOA to start the fall semester!! 💪🥳🥳
Great day at the @VI4Research Symposium. Oven Hale (@owenmicro), a Ph. D. Student in our lab, got to share his research conducting mutation studies in Lactic Acid Bacteria.
New #preprint from our lab! Here, PhD student @StarlCone has developed an R package (CoMMA) to annotate and identify differential 6mA methylation in microbes from Nanopore data. With CoMMA he observes relaxed selection on 6mA in Exp. evolved E.coli clones without mismatch repair.
Happy to share that a preprint is up for my 1st 1st-author publication! I wrote an R package for analyzing 6mA methylation in bacteria with Nanopore data. 6mA is dynamic! Less methylation around promoters, breakdown in 6mA over time w/o MMR. All the hits inside the paper!
New paper alert! @AReddiLab and colleagues describe differential use of exogenous and endogenous heme by M. tuberculosis in this offering.

So happy to finally make a thorough post about our new study with @wchoEvo, Complex Ecotype Dynamics Evolve in Response to Fluctuating Resources in @mbiojournal! (1/n) https://t.co/KEK6MNNGMl
So proud of @StarlCone! Did an amazing job at his quals today and is now a PhD candidate!!!
Big day for the Behringer lab, our first grad student is now our first candidate! More good things to come! @VUGradSchool@VU_ASM @VandyBioGrad
4) We are also welcoming a new graduate student to the group, Owen Hale (@owenmicro)! Owen’s interests are metagenomics, evolution, and the microbiome. So stay tuned for great things from him!
