The events we are seeing now are sadly the proof that no amount of American military force would ever deliver a stable, united, secure Afghanistan.
What is happening now could just as easily have happened five years ago — or fifteen years in the future.
So many of these Republicans now blasting Biden for this exit didn’t say shit last year when Trump actually said he trusted the Taliban and then set in motion an even earlier exit.
Foreign policy matters: After 20 years of U.S. effort, the loss of 2,448 soldiers and a trillion spent, Afghanistan was left with a corrupt government and an ineffectual military. At this moment, we must do everything we can to evacuate our allies and open our doors to refugees.
A full withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan was always going to be messy and complicated.
Now, the fallout President Biden faces from the withdrawal will be similarly complicated. https://t.co/4Onis0EOce
These guys are at this coffee shop playing a card game and their buddy had to leave to go take care of his girlfriend and they literally face timed him into the game. This is so wholesome.
J. Lo and Ben Affleck have gotten together, broken up, had children with other people, got back together, and are now kissing and I have been single through it all
Listen, I’m all for space exploration and it must have been an amazing view.
But maybe – and I’m just spitballing here – if Amazon and other companies paid their fair share in taxes, we could lift all kids — if not into space — at least out of poverty.
Sincerely,
Earthlings
