@steel177642@JeromeAdamsMD It was given year-round for recruits going to basic training. Then Hegseth thought he knew better than decades of medical/public health professionals so he changed it. FAFO.
Preclinical testing is absolutely required in vaccine development & in this case it occurred using enhanced pandemic potential pathogens & a reconstructed pandemic virus. “GoFRoC”
I get it. Virology is complex & denial is easier for some than admitting ignorance or confusion.
Credit where it’s due, Jeff Taubenberger is a great choice for the head of NIAID. He’s been at NIAID for years & is a terrific scientist who has done pivotal work on influenza virus, most notably reconstructing 1918.
Accordng to @RepMTG taking care of veterans? Not a real job. Doctors researching cancer? Not a real job. Making sure pilots are qualified? Not a real job. Ensuring factories aren't poisoning our water? Not a real job. Rescuing injured hikers? Not a real job. Putting out fires. Not a real job?
Stupid. Ignorant. Useless. That's who she is.
As we speak, scientisists across the country (including myself) are trying to to take care of simple administrative tasks related to the grants that we have recieved from the National Institutes of Health... 1/n
There was an ‘Ebola scare’ in NYC.
Or, at least there was on social media.
Viral posts manufactured a lot of things that just weren’t true.
NYC health commissioner already debunking this misinformation.
BUT this event DOES highlight something that is really important… 🧵
When you hear, "the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service class was cancelled and the officers fired" I hope this gives you a sense of what has been lost.
Not just the outbreaks that can't be investigated, the surge capacity gone, but our future public health leadership lost”
1/ After residency at Mass General Hospital, I reported to Atlanta to meet my fellow CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officers.
I have never felt so intimidated by my peers
The best and the brightest, they were star clinicians, had served in disaster zones; MD/PhDs and MSF.
@nancyaguidara @Ayjchan NO. Mass culling of animals has been performed for a long time when a highly transmissible & lethal virus is spreading through a herd, flock, etc. It’s been done under many administrations. Increasing numbers of bird flu outbreaks are causing this, driving up the cost of eggs.
@DrNeilStone Because she got fame and money linking herself to the right wing whackadoodles. And either doesn’t care or is too stupid to understand how she can hurt people who trust her because she’s cute and was a great swimmer. ‘MERICA! 🙄
@Riley_Gaines_ I dunno, maybe seizures, coma, heart and lung disease. Not everything is a big Pharma conspiracy, and people—she is making money off this! Like her for swimming and her great stand to keep men out of women’s sports but this political grift is dangerous!

@19joho I’m with you. And boy do you have stupid trolls commenting here. I wonder what it feels like to walk around that blind and dumb, thinking this whack job brain worm dude is qualified to lead the health sector in charge of over $1 trillion in spending per year. It’s embarrassing.
This is what we get when we ignore public health experts in favor of politicians and allow misinformation to fester. 7 kids hospitalized so far for a vaccine preventable disease. Measles can cause brain swelling, seizures, and blindness. https://t.co/BPiRvl36wl
All of this, the NIH cuts, and people like RFK Jr & Jay Bhattacharya in America’s health sector—men drunk on power and their sycophants who are either too stupid to know or don’t care that children and grandparents alike will suffer after they dismantle public health and research
Editing scientific content for political purity is turning MMWR into a compromised propaganda organ.
And why are the propaganda squads at CDC replacing specifically H5N1 bird flu studies?
I’ve got some pretty serious fascism- and flu-related concerns about this.
