It's frustrating when misinformed fans treat Toriyama's tendency to iterate on his own work as a valid criticism. They overlook how incredibly distinct early characters like Roshi, Bulma, Yamcha, and Ranfan, and many other DB characters were, and they fail to realize he was actively evolving concepts he first experimented with in Dr. Slump and his other One-shots. Taking core drafting fundamentals from older character designs and refining them into something entirely new is just how his art evolved.
