@assepsion@inordinqry that applies to literally every country in europe?? should we start saying “poland & europe” because a polish person wouldn’t get every joke in portugal? cultural differences don’t make the uk stop being european 😭 if you mean mainland europe/the eu, just say that
@assepsion@inordinqry people being curious about the uk because it’s different culturally doesn’t change its geographic classification ?? it’s like saying “japan & asia” because japan is culturally very different from, say, india or saudi arabia. japan is still obviously in asia tho still
@assepsion@inordinqry the uk is culturally/politically different from a lot of mainland europe and the eu, but the uk is still a european country. saying “the uk & europe” without specifying “mainland europe” or “the eu” is factually misleading because the uk is literally part of europe geographically
@assepsion@inordinqry saying “the UK & europe” makes it sound like the UK isn’t part of europe, just like saying “taiwan & asia” would be weird because taiwan is in asia regardless of its political/cultural relationship with mainland china.
@assepsion@inordinqry no, i read it perfectly 😭 you’re comparing cultural/geopolitical differences between the uk and mainland europe to taiwan and mainland china, but that doesn’t change the fact that the UK is geographically in europe.
