Statement from President Jere W. Morehead:
I am deeply saddened by the devastating attack in New Orleans overnight, and I extend my sincere condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this terrible tragedy.
At this point, we have learned that a University of Georgia student was critically injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment. I have spoken to the student’s family and shared my concern, support and well wishes on behalf of the entire UGA community. I would like to express my gratitude to all the first responders who moved so quickly to help those affected by this senseless act of violence, as well as to the medical personnel who are caring for the injured.
As we continue to hold the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers, the University will do everything in its power to support those in our community who have been impacted by this unspeakable event.
We are horrified and saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred in the early hours of New Year’s Day in New Orleans. University personnel are working to determine if any UGA students, faculty, staff, alumni or fans were among the victims. We offer our deepest condolences to all the victims and their families, and we stand in solidarity with the New Orleans community.
I see a lot of yall mad about the Sugar Bowl getting moved. Respectfully, get over yourself. I live in Uptown New Orleans not too far away from downtown.
I saw that a mom in Gulfport confirmed her 18 year old daughter was one of the victims who died.
Some shit is bigger than football. Bourbon is half a mile from the dome. Shit is frantic today. Give us a day to get our shit organized and help the families of those affected.
Crews continue working to make the final repairs to I-95 southbound near MM 75. In the next few hours, new concrete will be poured to complete the repair. Because of the rain and cooler temperatures, the concrete will be covered and heated while curing.
So someone who’s never heard the song before should have their first experience ruined by some girl who peaked in high school drama theatre who decides to belt every key out loud (probably off key)?
Today is recognized as Women in Hunting and Fishing Awareness Day in South Carolina.
We are grateful for the many women in our agency who work to manage public lands and waterways, the scientists who study them, and those who enforce our laws to protect them.
