I recently raised the case of a local family who have built their lives in our community, serving as a care worker and his wife, a teaching assistant and their children were told by the Home Office that they must leave the UK.
🪔 Bharathiraja dies at 84 - A director who stood with Eelam Tamils
Bharathiraja, the Tamil Nadu filmmaker known as Iyakkunar Imayam, died at his home in Chennai on 10 June 2026.
Bharathiraja sustained a record of public solidarity with Eelam Tamils that stretched from the ceasefire years to the final period of his life. It expressed itself as physical presence, political speech, open letters and legal demands, and it ran across more than two decades without interruption.

Honoured to have visited Belfast today as a keynote speaker at European Pro Bono Week event organised by Public Interest Litigation Support (PILS) at The Law Society of Northern Ireland.
Before travelling, my wife, daughter, and friends urged caution given recent media coverage. Yet, in just one day, Belfast reminded me why we should never confuse headlines with people.
I had the privilege of meeting exceptional lawyers and advocates whose commitment to justice, human rights, and the rule of law is truly inspiring. Their dedication gives hope and reaffirms the vital role of law in protecting the most vulnerable.
My sincere thanks to PILS, and especially to the remarkable Emma C and Kate B, for their outstanding leadership and tireless dedication. Despite limited resources, they continue to make an extraordinary impact in advancing access to justice across Northern Ireland, demonstrating what can be achieved through commitment, courage, and an unwavering belief in the rule of law.
I am also grateful to my @MTC_Solicitors colleagues, Klaudija and Aaron Bryan ,for accompanying me and making the visit even more memorable.
A brief visit, but a lasting impression.
I arrived with caution. I leave with admiration.
Belfast’s greatest strength is its people.

My statement for May 18th, Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day.
We remember the tens of thousands of Tamils massacred in Mullivaikkal. Our struggle for justice honours the memories of the victims.
Today we renew our calls for an end to silence and impunity.
Today, we remember the Mullivaikkal Genocide. We honour the tens of thousands of Tamil lives lost, with death estimates reaching as high as 169,000, and remember the 280,000 Tamils confined behind barbed wired concentration camps that echoed history’s darkest atrocities.
We honour the fallen, stand with the survivors, and reaffirm our unbroken call for truth, justice, accountability, and Never Again. Until truth is acknowledged and justice is delivered, Mullivaikkal will never be forgotten. #MullivaikkalGenocide #MullivaikkalRemembrance #TamilGenocide #May18 #NeverAgain #JusticeForTamils #RememberMullivaikkal #TruthAndJustice #TamilEelam #GenocideRemembrance #Accountability #NeverForgetMullivaikkal

The United Kingdom’s All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Tamils has said it looks forward to working closely with the newly elected Tamil Nadu government to “advance political rights based on the legitimate aspirations of Eelam Tamils”, in a congratulatory letter sent to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
In the letter dated May 13, APPG for Tamils Chair Dame Siobhain McDonagh and Vice Chair Uma Kumaran congratulated Vijay on taking oath as Chief Minister and on his party’s victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
“We look forward to working closely with your government to further strengthen cultural ties, enhance economic cooperation, advance political rights based on the legitimate aspirations of Eelam Tamils, and promote mutual understanding,” the letter stated.
@thisisparthiban@ITAKOrg@lankafiles He, a collaborator in the Tamil genocide, helped arrest, detain, and torture Tamils for personal gain. He is neither a Tamil representative nor a party secretary. His cousin DBS Jayaraj has also been accused of involvement in the killing of Tamil journalists.
