The insurance sector is the new cash cow for tycoons in Kenya. The mandatory $48 fee on international visitors is a scam. I warned about this long before it passed.
Worse, starting Nov 1st, all imports must be insured locally. These draconian laws kill the free movement of people and make Kenya a prohibitively expensive destination. To make it worse, only a select few companies are monopolizing the revenue, and their systems are completely broken. Right now at the airport, hundreds of tourists are left stranded waiting for links to load. This institutional failure is destroying our tourism and reputation. It must stop!
@MathuAlfred Many things are left out, how much was the lawyer paying for rent, viz monthly mortgage repayments and period viz rental yield. From what you have put here, nobody can make sense of it. It's all sensational.
@DonaldBKipkorir Homa Bay is not a poor county. This is utterly misplaced. Do we really know what poverty entails?
I think everyone is publishing something for convenience.
Prof., improvement of living standards and creation of wealth is a personal matter, not for government.
Government only lays social and economic infrastructure as an enabler.
Development must have at least 3 aspects:
1. Improvement of living standards for all citizens;
2. Creation of wealth for all citizens; and
3. Improvement of infrastructure in communities + nationally.
The Kenya Kwanza / UDA regime has done poorly on the first two.
At times we venture into what we don't understand, not because of so, but because we want to show prowess.
There's what we call minimum conditions for take in economics. Which a country must meet. All that's written here is his one condition.
PROVEN SEQUENTIAL STEPS HOW COUNTRIES MOVE FROM 3rd WORLD TO 1st WORLD IN ONE GENERATION
(Anything else is witchcraft)
FIRST STEP: Local farming to create self-sufficiency in food production including surplus for export. No importation of food. (Kenya is still importing maize from failed countries like Zambia & Malawi)
SECOND STEP: Support of cottage industry: furniture, pottery, Agro-value-add et al. How is it that we can’t manufacture world class furniture?
THIRD STEP: Light industrialization.. textile, cutlery, glassware, bicycle manufacturing, Assembly plants for radios/tvs/motor bikes et al … We lost RAYMONDS, KICOMI, RIVATEX … We can’t even make world class spoon!
FOURTH STEP: heavy industries: industrial production including processing & manufacturing industries.
FIFTH STEP: Technology innovation & AI.
SIXTH STEP: National Harmony & Happiness.
(Building of many public Hospitals is misplaced. Should be left to private sector. And building of many Churches costing millions when people are hungry/unemployed/sick is not biblical)
The second last paragraph now negates the whole argument.
It seems you haven't understood why the Luo nation appreciates the few who join the Government.
The Luo have held held a spoon and haven't seen in the kitchen, where others have been cooking, as has been said.
OPEN LETTER TO THE LUO NATION
As a Kalenjin, a cousin to the Luo, I say with all conviction that one indisputable truth is the Luo Nation has been in the forefront in our liberation struggle ab initio.
When England wanted to gift us independence (that we fought for independence is debatable), they offered Jaramogi Oginga Odinga to be our first Prime Minister. He demurred & said Jomo Kenyatta must be released & made the Prime Minister instead. Jomo became our first Prime Minister. In 1964,he became our 1st President & made Jaramogi his Vice President. Their fallout is well known. And “marginalization” of Nyanza begun. Or so some say. Jomo had powerful Luos in his government,
Fast forward. Luo Nation led Kenya in its 2nd liberation that made Kenya multi party. Then President Daniel Arap Moi co-opted LDP & gave Luo luminaries powerful positions in government! Moi who had been demonized was praised as holier than Moses!
Then in 2002, Luo Nation said KIBAKI TOSHA. After three years, Luo Nation teamed up with Kalenjin Nation & others to form Orange Movement. 2007 was our lowest moment. Kenya descended into tribal anarchy. The world saved us!
Then Mwai Kibaki entered into a Coalition Government with Raila Odinga. Luo Nation were happy to be part of the Government & Kibaki was praised to the high heavens.
2013 came. Luo Nation found themselves out for five years. Then in the second term of UHURUTO, there was handshake. Uhuru was praised as the messiah! Even Nyanza leaders danced on Uhuru’s birthdays!
Now, Uhuru is the devil incarnate. Nyanza is part of the BroadBased government & everything before today was Luo Marginalization! Now Luo say they are in paradise.
MAYBE, it is time Luo Nation enters into genuine self-introspection. Is co-opting of few Luo leaders in every government since 1963 good for them or beneficial to the few only? Why is it every time few are co-opted,the entire tribe is happy for that moment. It has been same for over 60 YEARS!
What does the Luo Nation want? If they have agreed that ODM & UDA come together, then they must dissolve their parties into one. A political marriage works if all feet are inside. Luo Nation must risk all or lose everytime then complain. They must stop being a flower girl in every wedding. They must be the Bride or Groom!
Any other arrangement will always have same outcome. Ending immediately after elections.
All Public Projects should be made truly transparent by:
1. Making the tender available to all.
2. Publishing the list of the tenderers.
3. Publishing the winning tender plus the winning project design details
4. Public should be able to monitor the project progress plus the payments made.
Many times, public projects once completed don’t match the tender designs & quality. Many of our completed roads & bridges are alien to the winning designs.
Without such transparency, public projects will continue being corruption conduits & a delay to us being Singapore!
Tribal or ethnic mobilization during elections may not end soon, as you must start from home outwards.
The problem is making your tribe the supremacist among others when it comes to sharing of national resources and opportunities. Deal also with this.
Rift Valley Leaders are on the ground mobilizing their people to vote as a Block!
Mount Kenya is doing the same.
Coast Region is doing the same.
Western Kenya is in similar mode.
Luo Nyanza is in similar mode.
Kamba people are doing similar.
And so are Somalis.
Politics in Kenya has always revolved around the Big Tribes consolidating its votes then entering into tribal alliances.
To accuse one region of tribalism is stupid hypocrisy!
Our democracy is tribe-centric. Anything else is fantasy.
But do so called Kenyan investors understand that. Greed drive them to multistorey which later breeds the tragedy of the commons. Start with Nairobi, upper Hill, Kilimani were decent, low-rise residential homes. Now are turning to high-rise slums.
GOVERNMENT SAVES NANYUKI. FOR NOW
Government of Kenya has saved Nanyuki Town from collapse … But the Counties of Nyeri, Laikipia & Meru that share & profit from Nanyuki must fix the sh*t!
Kilifi County allowed Malindi to collapse.
Nakuru County allowed Naivasha to collapse.
Kwale County is letting Diani collapse.
Resort cities are well planned .. No more than two floors buildings … No kiosks … No slums … Well-lit streets … Sufficient water … Sewerage System … Upscale restaurants … Amazing boutique hotels … Excellent bars & dance places …
Nanyuki can still be saved.
Cheptongei Village Tribunal Judgement:
We agree with you that your neighour cut your fence & stole your cow. We can see the cow in his compound. But we are afraid we can’t return the cow as he has fixed the fence where he had cut. But to compensate you, we will give you a goat!
Case Dismissed.
@ahmednasirlaw It's high time we determine and agree that corruption and governance issues are people driven and have nothing to do with leaders and external presidents. @ahmednasirlaw Kenyans must know and understand, that governance challenges is their business and they correct it themselves
@amerix@Illusion__X_ By the way, so what are you talking about? Ugali or chemical production of maize?
I think we run to mislead the masses and bring unintended crisis. Rice is produced with chemicals, wheat the same, even vegetables. So at times let's attack the root causes and not the fruits.
The debt Moi handed to Kibaki: 600 billion.
600 billion in 40 years.
The debt Kibaki handed Uhuru: 1.8 trillion.
Kibaki borrowed 1.2 trillion in 10 years.
The debt Uhuru handed Ruto: 8.5 trillion.
Uhuru borrowed 7.3 trillion in 10 years!
Legally, Uhuru was allowed to borrow only 2 trillion, but he borrowed an extra 5.3 trillion ILLEGALLY.
By the time Uhuru left, we had paid 7 trillion according to an independent and verifiable forensic audit.
We paid the legal 2 trillion, and also paid Uhuru's illegal debt of 5 trillion.
Therefore, our balance was 1.5 trillion in 2022.
However, the debt has continued to skyrocket, rising from 8.5 trillion to 12 trillion.
This begs the question, who is pocketing our money?
Why is the parliament not summoning Uhuru to explain this blatant constitutional violation?
Why is Ruto not being put to task by parliament on why he continues to abet this illegal repayment?
Why are we paying a debt that doesn't exist?
Today, for every 100 shillings we collect as revenue, 96 shillings is repaying this debt.
A debt that doesn't exist, builds nothing, and gives zero return on investment.
We are only left with 4 shillings to pay civil servants, run the government, and build infrastructure.
We are in chains.
Our children deserve to be told the truth.
We can't hand the country to them that is in debt, in shambles and in chains.
This madness must stop!
But why must a country with rational beings and learned, put the government that it must always ban and lift a ban on things. Conservation of forests and biodiversity is an existential mandatory. When will this sink in our heads as people of Kenya.
Is there a problem in having a Factory in Eldoret? Is Eldoret not Kenya? Kenya must rise and become an industrialized nation.
President Ruto’s decision to lift the logging ban is timely. It revives local industries, creates jobs, and reduces unnecessary imports like toothpicks and furniture.
Responsible logging ensures sustainability and promotes Kenya’s self-reliance through homegrown production.
