NO EXTRA CHARGES FOR UK PASSPORT INTERVENTION - FG

The Federal Government has clarified that Nigerians participating in the ongoing special passport intervention exercise in the United Kingdom are not required to pay any charges beyond the official passport fees.

In a statement, the Special Adviser to the Minister of Interior on Media and Publicity, Alao Babatunde, indicates that the official fees remain 150 dollars for a five-year passport and 230 dollars for a ten-year passport, excluding bank charges.

The statement stresses that neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Nigeria Immigration Service has introduced any additional charges for the intervention exercise.

The Minister’s media aide adds that consultations are ongoing with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address inconveniences experienced by applicants during the exercise.

Applicants are also advised to take advantage of the contactless biometric passport application system.

Nigeria Immigration Service booked a Lebanese owned Layali Lounge in London as a center for their emergency passport intervention scheme. They charged people who would be coming for passport renewal between £70 — £150 depending on the service they wanted.

But guess what?

No payment was made to the owners/management of the lounge. No security was provided at the venue. It was just vibes and insha Allah. Nigeria and anyhowness are 5&6.

Here was the moment that thr person managing the lounge allegedly sent people away from the lounge and shut his door. This was very shameful. Nigeria government, when will you stop embarrassing us outside?

BREAKING: The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, SCSN, has called on the ONSA and the DSS to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into renewed allegations linking Senator Shehu Buba Umar to acts of banditry and terrorism.

The Council also urged relevant security authorities to conduct a thorough, independent, and transparent investigation into the allegations.

In a statement issued on September 7, 2026, the SCSN warned against the politicization of national security, stressing that credible allegations must be properly investigated, while unsubstantiated accusations should not be weaponized for political purposes.

The latest position comes despite the Council's previous defense of Senator Buba in 2024 when similar allegations of involvement in banditry emerged against him.

At the time, the SCSN described the allegations as baseless and malicious and accused politicians of politicizing Nigeria's security challenges. The Council had argued that Senator Buba's engagements and contributions to security initiatives should not be turned into evidence of wrongdoing without credible proof.

However, in its latest statement, the Council said the emergence of renewed allegations and evidence makes it necessary for the relevant security institutions to establish the facts and provide clarity on the matter.

The SCSN also called on the ONSA and DSS to clarify the nature of their previous engagements with the senator, particularly in relation to consultations and efforts aimed at addressing terrorism and banditry.
