I don't think most people understand how impossible it is to afford market rent on ODSP. My mom receives $1,150 a month, and before my brother passed, he received $926 a month. They lived together, which means the total income of this household per month was $2,076.

As a believer in the abolition of policing in it’s entirety, I believe that no one deserves to be violently policed. However, I think about this day often and then I think about the freedom convoy and all I can say is that watching this video hurts different now.

This is so gut wrenching to me. I’ve watched countless tents that belonged to people who are unhoused be destroyed by city staff, municipal law enforcement, and Hamilton police. I’ve seen their extreme weather supports like propane tanks get confiscated.

Toronto has broken another record: today 30 people will be added to the homeless memorial: it remembers ppl who died without housing. Back in October we added 17 people, which was a new (and grim) record. This month, the number doubled. Thirty.

Cops played tug a war with my body for defending encampments. They sprained my wrist & I’m in pain, however it doesn’t come close to the pain I felt seeing my friends & neighbours be coerced into inadequate temporary shelters that spit them back out into the cold.
