Why I disagree with Annamalai's position on the Karur 3,084.95-acre issue 

Annamalai has welcomed the TVK government's decision to remove the registration block on these lands. However, this issue requires legal scrutiny, not a blanket approach.

Before removing a registration block covering thousands of acres, the government should first publish a transparent survey-number-wise classification identifying:

• Undisputed temple properties
• Lands with valid ryotwari pattas granted under the 1963 Act
• Lands where ownership remains disputed

Temple (Devadayam) lands: -  These are lands endowed to the deity/temple and administered under the HR&CE framework. They enjoy statutory protection and cannot be freely alienated. Genuine temple properties must remain protected.

 Service Inams: -  These were historically granted to individuals performing temple services, such as archakas and other service holders. While the Tamil Nadu Minor Inams (Abolition and Conversion into Ryotwari) Act, 1963 provided for ryotwari pattas in eligible cases after statutory inquiry, s𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗺𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Minor Inams - The 1963 Act abolished the old inam tenure system. Depending on the nature of the grant, possession, cultivation status, and settlement proceedings, ryotwari pattas could be granted to eligible individuals or institutions.

The legal question is not simply temple land vs private land. The real question is whether each survey number was properly classified and legally settled under the applicable law.
