Do you have any thoughts about the BandCamp situation? Can we cherry-pick a model that can work and be sustainable for the long term?

@paedrico Well, I have some experience with both models. I worked at an Independent label for a little while and asked a lot of questions about distribution. I've also been an artist displaying and working with non profits. It's a big subject for me as well.
Web3 Grant reaching @MuseumModernArt
In 2021, I had the idea of creating a commission/grant system for photographers. First, it was called CPN then, through the vision of @tonyherrera it became @obscuradao. We saw the opportunity of NFTs as a way to fund artists to create projects that, without financial support, would be hard to create.
One of those 20+ grants we awarded was for "Subject Studies" by the amazing artist @tanifrancoklein. On a formal level, in order to produce a final set of 50 pieces, Tania worked on an idea that would relate to the iteration process of generative art translated into photography. She usually creates unique scenes per photograph, but we proposed the premise of not changing the scene but changing the characters. What would that create?
Now, I am excited to announce that the MOMA has acquired 16 subjects from this project. Congratulations, Tania, for this amazing moment! Love what you did for the project, and love that you pushed your art to the next level.
Why do people who have disposable $$ decide that the thing they hang on the wall of their home should be a crappy reproduction. I’m not expecting everyone to drop a million$ on a Basquiat or a Pachter or even a Colville. But maybe an original anything by a local artist?
How to build an ‘agency’ or a ‘publisher’ or a ‘label’ for 21st century photographers is something that takes up way too many cycles in my brain. I’d love to hear other thoughts and insights from the wider photog community…
As a photographer, if I wanted to join an agency or find a publisher, I would hope they operated more like a for profit record label than a non profit art foundation.
Photography matters.
I firmly believe it’s a net positive to humanity, but we often forget how powerful photographs are until a major life event happens. Then we realize they are some of the most valuable things we have in our lives.
@expectlaura @michaelcwheeler Indeed. We had tickets booked to visit the campus with our eldest…but now. Out of the question. We love the city. However, it is becoming clear that it no longer loves us back.
This decision has stripped clubs of a powerful community outreach tool and removed meaningful support for Special Initiatives, all to protect a select few who do not want to answer any questions about their choices. I hope the NHL reconsiders in order to remain a leader in DEI.
The NHL clarified today that there is a league wide ban on Pride Tape by any player in games, warm-ups, or practices.
It's 2023 and there's now a new "Don't Say Gay" set of rules issued by a major international sports league.
I literally cannot.
Investigations like the one we published today are time-consuming and expensive. Yet without them, millions of people would be misinformed.
Support journalism, or very soon there won't be any. https://t.co/sZjN8bSjyi
The NHL has been saying that hockey is for everyone for so long, and thanks to Gary Bettman we now know that’s a lie. The NHL peeled off the Pride tape, and now we can see what was always underneath. https://t.co/Q7U9BeoopX
The news business in Canada is fighting for its very survival.
But you do have a choice.
Because I promise you, the only way we will have news in Canada ten years from now, or sooner, is if you (yes YOU) choose to pay for it. 11/x https://t.co/sZjN8bSjyi
You know what blew my mind this week? While i was waiting for a kit to be delivered from https://t.co/APZqtynztw (photo supplies) the price went down 25% and they credited my account the difference. With a funny and personal email. I rate my experience 12/10
