World Day of Remembrance for Road Victims
SARAH today joins the global community in honouring the millions of people killed and injured on the world’s roads. In Australia, the numbers grow & SARAH calls for renewed leadership and Government urgent action #GetHomeSafe#DriveSOS
During consultations for our white paper, 65%–91% of riders said safety mattered more than price. When we allow nonstandard helmets into the market, we let people down. NGOs can expose them and stand up for people’s right to be safe.

Rigorous enforcement and effective deterrents are crucial if lives are to be saved on the roads.
When the worst happens, we need thorough investigations and prosecutions to fit the crimes committed that resulted in taking a life. Strong messages needed!

What do 30 km/h zones, pedestrian facilities, lower speed limits, traffic calming measures, and helmet laws have in common?

Are politicians spending taxpayer money on making roads safer, or just winning votes? Right now, we don’t know.
Without data on how governments choose which roads to fund, communities are left in the dark.
This morning on @abcaustralia Radio National, AAA Managing Director Michael Bradley unpacked why releasing secret road safety ratings will save lives and restore public confidence in the integrity of government.

The Nationals frontbencher Darren Chester today stood up for transparency and integrity by backing the AAA’s My Safety Counts campaign.
Mr Chester, a former transport minister, is the third Coalition candidate to support data-driven road investment, joining Dan Tehan (Wannon) and Anne Webster (Mallee).
The campaign, led by Australia’s motoring clubs and their 9.5 million members, is calling on the Federal Government to use road safety ratings to guide road funding decisions.
This will show whether they are investing to save lives, or just in votes in marginal electorates.

⏰ The clock is ticking. Just 36 days until the 2025 Federal Election.
Do you want to test if a politician is really on your side?
Don’t wait for election day. You can ask your local candidates now whether they believe road spending decisions should come with data showing how they will save lives.
Five sitting MPs and two Independent candidates already support this call. Where do the rest stand?

Do politicians build roads to keep you safe?
Kooyong Independent MP Monique Ryan has become the first MP in the country to endorse the AAA’s campaign for candidates to back their road funding promises with data.
Dr Ryan told the AAA today: “It’s a great initiative which fits well with both my interest in road safety and health and my interest in transparency around government spending.”
The AAA is grateful for Dr Ryan’s support for this commonsense proposal.
