Nice article discussing the challenges of bringing #wintercanola to the Prairies. Certainly it's a long term goal but I think there are ways to make it happen. Hybrids are a big part of the story but there are other tools that can help.

@rhofford The work Julia does is one of the few examples we have of long term data on weed distributions in Canada. Very important data for scientists, producer groups and farmers. Relies on cooperation of all parties and I hope you will consider her request.
Overcast skies & a pleasant spring day at 4000+ feet elevation in IDAHO to visit with farmers and observe 100 bushel + commercial winter canola & new experimental hybrids. #rubiscoseeds#pnwcanola#universityofidaho
Same crop, same hybrid - very different growth stages. We're at full flower in Harrow, while #wintercanola is just starting to re-grow from the rosette in New Liskeard. Lots of potential still to be to realized in both locations.
This research is really about pushing the boundaries of where winter canola can be grown in Ontario. Trying to identify the right mix of genetics and management practices to improve overwinter survival in northern climates.
Our long-awaited best practices white sheet for pesticide application by drone. Detailed enough to be actionable, but not so overly prescriptive that it's obsolete in a week. Hopefully accessible to new applicators and to pros.

First canola flower in Canada for 2026? Mercedes is still a bit behind this early hybrid but it wont be long. Beauty of a day for walking plots with @melochesy#wintercanola
@JoshBoersen Looks good to me. They can be big and still have the crown tucked close to the ground. Just don't want to see the growing point up too high.
And just like that @melochesy is back and Woodslee is planted! Big thanks to Alyssa Thibodeau for keeping me on the straight and narrow for the past year. 🙌 #wintercanola
