Carer's Allowance at £81.90 a week is an insult to #UnpaidCarers after all they do to fill in the gaps left by the Govt's broken social care system
It also locks most carers out of paid work as claimants must be at home caring 35 hours a week minimum

@marcus_baw @OpenSAFELY Agree. It can be done without big tech. the only issue is the NHS don't want to take the risk on startups or small companies. Big tech is a lower riosk as they can shirk responsiblities if/when it goes wrong.
Really interesting piece about the public's view of care services and how we need 'deep narrative change' to alter perceptions. We agree with this and offer services to allow active choice of care rather than people needing care being a passive participant
Great piece for care comms people: “..without an equally powerful account of the value social care can bring to all of our lives, this has contributed to a ‘doom loop’ from which we are struggling to escape…We need to tell a different story” @socfuture https://t.co/Xs6Um96gf6
We’ve turned replies off on this thread, something that we’ve never done before ❌
But we don’t feel we have a choice.
Earlier this week we posted about ableist slurs in Ricky Gervais’ new show.
As a result, our replies have been full of abuse towards disabled people 🤬 1/7
NEW: Join us on Wednesday 13th December at 4pm as we question Secretary of State @VictoriaAtkins.

We had a fantastic evening at our Social Care Summit - thank you all for coming!
If there’s one message we’re going to take away from tonight, it’s this: Social Care is an incredibly important sector that must not be overlooked, instead, we need to invest and let it thrive!
Important: For ALL pensioners who are disabled, ill or need home help. If u need help with daily living check out Attendance Allowance. Our new research shows up to 1,100,000 miss out on £3,500/yr. Here's my briefing, pls share with those its relevant for

A big personal regret in life is how, despite the work I do around #socialcare, it wasn't until we were in the teeth of a 'crisis' that we really looked at 'formal' social care to support my dad. We just put the conversation off until we couldn't. 1/

Simon has done a much better job than me at taking the emotion out of the latest migration policy announcement and looking at its impact on social care. Take a look
@BBCRadio4@MalockMellock completely clear on the challenges of insufficient funding for better care wages and need for a workforce plan to avoid business failure. @CQCProf State of Care report and @skillsforcare report outlined this too. Needs an initiative in time for spring.
TODAY!
The government continues to push measures that will negatively impact the #SocialCare Sector
@cmcanea “migrants will now head to more welcoming countries"
There's never been a better time to call on the government to invest in the sector. Join us:https://t.co/53sHhQQgzf
@mancunianmedic Wonder how many people put their need to access health and care services in a timely manner (or at all) above their desire to stop immigration. Time will tell.
@professor_dave The government wants to reduce the number of overseas care workers. This is a way of putting them off without explicitly saying so.
They have no plan to invest in the domestic care workforce to reduce reliance on sponsored workers.
So many more people will go without care.
If you are concerned about todays announcement, get in touch so you can be in control of how, when and where you work. We want to support you to work and live how you want too.

Health and social care are exempt from the new £38,700 min salary, this means we can only sponsor from the green list of India, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka, What about the commonwealth countries. https://t.co/eD5p5fSYtF
Ahead of the announcement the government have added more countries to the red list. No active recruitment is permitted.
