Introducing the DECADAL project funded by @UKRI_News#UKRIFLF with the central aims of
(1) understanding natural climate variability, past and future (2) integrating research evidence into policy and climate services.
Our colleagues @Conversation_E have translated our work to publish it in The Conversation Europe. Now available for readers in English! We hope you enjoy and share it! #paleoclimatology
Dr Celia Martin-Puertas, Laura Boyall & Dr Paul Lincoln from @Palaeo_Decadal talked about proxy-based palaeoclimate at the @metoffice yesterday. Discussing the use of their annual (palaeo) observations to validate models & hypothesis #RHULGeogResearch#RHULGeogPGR#ukriflf#rhul
And that’s a wrap on our first week coring in southern Spain. Amazing week with great company and very nice looking sediments! Looking forward for the weekend for research meetings and more coring next week… #palaeolimnology#DECADAL
Kicking off our two week coring campaign and DECADAL research group meetings at Laguna de Zoñar this morning. Excited to get set up and extract some mud!
The next set of talks at @InquaRoma2023 from our DECADAL team were from PhD student @Lauraboyall1 talking about Bayesian decadal climate reconstructions, and PDRA @ashleymabrook presenting preliminary chiro and biomarker data from two varved lake sites. Well done! #INQUARoma2023
Great first day at @InquaRoma2023. Our DECADAL team have shared some of our work! Our PDRA @DrPLincoln showed the differences in age modelling techniques, and @CMartinPuertas has been showcasing her new illustrated children’s book, and introduced our policy co-production approach
A slightly different publication to what we’re used to… check out our PI’s (@CMartinPuertas) new children’s book about the hidden treasures in lake sediments. If you’re at #INQUARoma2023 drop by session 10 on Friday to collect a free version 📖📖
💡Research Spotlight💡
Dr Celia Martin Puertas is a lecturer in Physical Geography & a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow @UKRI_News#FLF. Inspired by co-PI Dr Alice Milner’s engagement with policy, Celia’s research project “Rethinking Palaeoclimatology for Society” @Palaeo_Decadal... 🧵
Look at the colour of these varves😍…It was great to introduce todays young visitors into the world of varves at todays @RoyalHolloway science festival!
We then introduced the group to palaeoclimate reconstructions and explained how the North Atlantic climate has changed over the past 10,000 years and how we can see this in proxy records. A great really afternoon! ☁️☀️🛰️
Today @CMartinPuertas and @Lauraboyall1 joined @sashacakes and others in their weather mobilities workshop. We were shown how to use DIY-ground stations to capture live satellite images of the North Atlantic region.
Pleased to say that my first, first author paper is now published!! https://t.co/nCkPGhOzLF. This study summarises a 3.5 year lake monitoring survey at Diss Mere, Norfolk to identify the drivers of seasonal sediment deposition within the lake 💧☀️🚣♀️
Acabamos de publicar este artículo en @NatureGeosci
En él analizamos la variabilidad climática a lo largo del Holoceno a escala de decadas y vemos que el deshielo juega un papel fundamental en la evolución, recurrencia y predicción del sistema climático!

‼️ Our latest research on climate predictability and continental ice melt is now live in @NatureGeosci ‼️ This research uses proxy data and model simulations to show how direct ice melt can have implications for the oscillatory behaviour of the climate system. Check it out below!
Article: Meltwater discharge to the mid-Holocene North Atlantic disrupted decadal climate variability, suggesting future melting on Greenland may hinder climate predictability in the region

This amazing project @Palaeo_Decadal led by the best leader I know @CMartinPuertas and where I participate as a scientific partner (@CICAUDC@UDC_gal) has already launched its website!!
Don't miss it and check our progress, it won't disappoint you! https://t.co/cK4wuh8kEn
