Apropos to nothing, allow me to remind people that a translator saying they "worked with the original producers" on a project is, by itself, a statement so stunningly vague as to mean absolutely nothing.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@Ake_Vang @USpiaggia Nothing totally works with time travel, it's inherently inconsistent as a concept. All this needed to do is bring it safely within reasonable range of a "It's a book for children, chill out a bit" handwave, which it mostly does.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@Ake_Vang @USpiaggia What she ended up doing is basically implying that it's always closed loops: if you used a time turner, you are already in the timeline in which you used the time turner. I.e. you didn't change the past, which is what happened in PoA.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@Ake_Vang @USpiaggia The Time Turner is a narrative albatross, and Rowling probably took the wisest decision out of what were only bad choices: sweep it under the table. The Pottermore explanation further nerfed into effective uselessness, so long as one doesn't think too hard about the implications.

@GaiusLatine @iriscal You need to have someone:
-In a position where they could CHOSE not to die.
-And offer to trade their life.
-And offer no resistance to their death.
-And the offer was (tacitly) accepted.
-And then the deal is broken.

This is why James's death didn't work.

@DaddyWarpig I loved the bit in Babylon 5 when Dr. Franklin goes on an "aboriginal walkabout journey of discovery", and it ends with a vision of himself calling him an irresponsible retard who's being a pussy and wasting his time with mumbo-jumbo.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@LightningShade0 Most people have only watched the movies at best and have no idea the extent to which they dumbed down or sanitized most characters. Movie Snape is just straight up a totally different person.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

I genuinely have trouble telling the bait engagement accounts apart from grown-ass adults who genuinely get confused by a fairly straightforward children's book. There are dozens of these on my timeline right now.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@LightningShade0 Snape remains a sad, hateful wreck, unrepentant about the innocent man he got killed and the kid whose life he ruined. Even his turn to the good side was coerced out of him. That’s the key to the character, he’s a genuinely shitty human being with one glowing saving grace.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@LightningShade0 Mind you, Lily didn’t cut off contact with Snape because he said a no-no word. This was the last straw after years of him happily hanging out with budding psychopath terrorists, whom he’d then join as a loyal psychopath terrorist. He was a loyal Death Eater until this point.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@USpiaggia @jd_sauvage You don't even need to assume, it is explicitly said that real money has identifiers. The only thing sadder about people "What's his tax policy"-ing a book for children is somehow managing to get it wrong in the process.

One outcome of more HP discussion, is people rushing to find their own clever worldbuilding hole to smugly chastise Rowling over and instead embarrassing themselves by posting things that aren't plotholes.

Wizard money is fiat.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

One of the sad consequences of the first Neverending Story movie being 1/2 of the book and the others being made up horseshit, is that most people have no idea where the book goes or how it turns the entire "power fantasy" on its head.

[Carlos That Notices Things @QuetzalPhoenix]

It is a very easy way to create a power fantasy scenario for nerds who play videogames which is unfortunate because if done well you can get a Narnia or a Neverending Story or an Army of Darkness. The genre itself is not the problem, I think.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@CovfefeAnon Are you under the impression that the purpose of banknote identifiers is to keep tabs on the printer?

[Covfefe Anon @CovfefeAnon]

>The real question is why nobody in the wizarding world seems to have built an entire financial empire around this.

The answer is "because the author is a woman"

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

@GamingAndPandas I've said it before: a CK game but without the map. Micro the shit out of the scope, max out on fucked up court politics. Harem backstabbing and scheming viziers.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

I am not exaggerating: the last time I saw Nintendo publicity in my country (i.e. we were considered an attractive enough market to advertise to) was during the launch of Super Smash Brothers.

The first one. For the N64.

@SnepOfTheWest It was not a big deal at all and Ron points out exactly that. Hermione is just being a jealous cunt about it. This isn't an interpretation or anything, the book says it explicitly.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

Ron as usual serves as the common sense by pointing out that this is obviously not cheating, he's just following instructions as he should, his are just better. Harry even offers to share them, but Hermione rejects them out of stubbornness.

[Palaverous @PalaverousSE]

The actual funny detail is that all the Weasley children whose confirmed pairings we know of had normal 90's-married-couple amounts of children. Ginny had 3, Ron had 2, I think Bill had 1.

It's not a "Weasley" thing, Arthur Weasley in particular just FUCKED.

[Templarpilled @Templarpilled]

By 2100, England's wizarding community will consist exclusively of Weasley family members.

All the Hogwarts professors were childless. Families like the Malfoys and the Longbottoms are shown to have few kids.

Poor gingers are wizard England's only hope.

Credit to Way of the Samurai 4 doing this one fantastically thanks to the groundhog day-like nature of the multiple playthroughs exposing you to every for-want-of-a-nail inflection point.

[Sloth Damage @SlothDamage]

Most of them make sense but I actually want examples of complicated good endings that steps legitimately just make no sense and have no correlation
