Mourinho probably convinced him to drop Barca and come to Madrid for him after all they’re both Portuguese. It will be easy to convince him.
The first thing Mourinho would see is control. Bernardo gives coaches control of games. He is the type of player that allows a team to progress the ball, retain possession under pressure, and solve pressing traps without needing an extra midfielder.
In possession, I’d expect him to start nominally from the right side of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3, but his actual role would be much narrower. Rather than holding width, he would constantly move into the right half-space to create overloads with the right-back and central midfielders. Mourinho has always valued compactness around the ball, and Bernardo is elite at helping teams create numerical superiority in key zones.
Defensively, he fits Mourinho almost perfectly too. Mourinho’s best teams have always had attackers willing to work without the ball. Bernardo is relentless in pressing, tracking runners, closing passing lanes, and helping protect his full-back. In big games, Mourinho would trust him because he consistently executes defensive instructions while still contributing in possession.
But this signings are still Champions league Signings.
If José Mourinho gets Bernardo Silva at Real Madrid, he isn't signing him for goals and assists.
He's signing him for control. For years, Madrid's midfield has been built around power, athleticism and transitions. Bernardo adds something different: rhythm.
Tactically, Mourinho would likely use him as the right-sided central midfielder in a 4-3-3 or as one of the two advanced midfielders in a 4-2-3-1. His job wouldn't be to dominate highlight reels. It would be to dominate moments.
The first thing Bernardo brings is ball retention. When Madrid are under pressure, he's one of the best midfielders in world football at receiving in tight spaces, escaping pressure and keeping possession moving. Mourinho's teams have always valued midfield security, and Bernardo gives Madrid an outlet whenever opponents try to press aggressively.
The second thing is defensive intelligence. People still think of Bernardo as an attacking midfielder, but his work off the ball is elite. He presses relentlessly, tracks runners and understands defensive spacing. Mourinho loves midfielders who work as hard without the ball as they do with it.
The third thing is creating balance for Jude Bellingham.
Bernardo's positional discipline would allow Jude greater freedom to attack the box and influence games higher up the pitch. Instead of asking Jude to do everything, Madrid would have a specialist controller handling the game's tempo. That's a role Mourinho has historically valued, from Deco to Wesley Sneijder to Mesut Özil in different systems.
Most importantly, Bernardo solves a problem Mourinho clearly sees. Madrid have plenty of stars. They don't have many conductors.
Bernardo won't be the loudest name in the team sheet, but he might become the player who decides when Madrid speed up, when they slow down and when they kill games.
That's exactly why Mourinho reportedly wants him so badly. Reports indicate the Portuguese coach sees Bernardo's leadership, commitment and game-management qualities as central to his Madrid rebuild.
Bernardo Silva at Real Madrid isn't about flair. It's about giving Mourinho complete control of the midfield.

The transfer window opened, and Barcelona rushed to sign Gordon for €90 million and started calling us broke. 😂
Florentino responded by signing Konaté and Dumfries, and he’s reportedly ready to splash €150 million on either Vitinha or João Neves.
And he’s still promising more Galáctico signings.
Barcelona’s downfall have already started. 😭
🚨💣 EXCLUSIVE: Florentino Pérez ready to go to war with Bayern Munich for Michael Olise.
Understand from sources in Spain and Germany: the Real Madrid president is determined to make the Crystal Palace winger his next big signing.
Olise has already given the green light to join Real Madrid — the player is very happy with the project and sees it as the perfect next step in his career.
However, a deal must first be agreed with Bayern, who signed him last summer. Pérez is prepared to launch a massive bid and go above the €220m PSG paid for Neymar in 2017, which would make Olise the most expensive signing in football history.
Talks are expected to intensify in the coming days.
I hate the fact I always reference football manager cos it’s the closest thing to real life. Before Madrid makes a bid. Perez would have spoken his agent first if Olise was open to joining and his agent would have given a go ahead and tell him it’s all depends on Bayern. You think clubs just wake up one day and bid for players without talking to agents ? How do u think Fabrizio gets his intel?
