NHPC has achieved a new milestone by recording it’s highest-ever single-day power generation of 169.34 Million Units (MU) on 02.08.2026 during FY 2026-27, surpassing its previous highest-ever single-day generation of 167.02 MU recorded on 01.08.2026. Congratulating the entire NHPC family on this achievement, Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, said, "This achievement reflects the dedication, teamwork and technical excellence of our employees across NHPC's power stations and projects. It reaffirms our commitment to operational excellence, timely project execution, asset reliability and sustainable power generation. I congratulate every member of the NHPC family for this remarkable accomplishment." The record has been made possible through the commissioning of the 800 MW Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project, the addition of 1,000 MW capacity at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (750 MW during FY 2025-26 and an additional 250 MW in May 2026) and the successful restoration of the 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station in July 2026 after remaining out of service since the October 2023 flash floods. With these developments, NHPC's operational installed capacity has increased to 7,651 MW (Hydro: 7,251 MW, Solar: 350 MW, Wind: 50 MW), enabling the Company to maximize clean energy generation during the ongoing high inflow season. Project, Sikkim, on 20 July 2026. Their unwavering dedication, courage and commitment to nation-building will forever remain an inspiration to the entire NHPC fraternity. The entire NHPC family pays its heartfelt tributes to the departed souls and extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We pray to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the noble souls and the strength, courage and solace to their loved ones to bear this profound and irreparable loss.

#NHPC Declares Commercial Operation of its third unit (Unit # 1 of 250 MW) of India’s Largest Hydropower Project- 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project-NHPC Limited, a ‘Navratna’ PSU under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has declared the successful commercial operation of the third unit (Unit #1 of 250 MW) of its 2000 MW (8×250 MW) Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project located in Arunachal Pradesh/Assam. The unit commenced commercial operation at 00:00 hrs on March 20, 2026, adding 250 MW of clean hydropower to the National Grid. With the commissioning of this unit, Subansiri Lower Project has now achieved a total operational capacity of 750 MW out of its planned 2000 MW, further strengthening hydropower’s role in ensuring grid stability, providing peak power support and facilitating the integration of renewable energy into the national grid. Prior to commercial operation, the trial run of the unit was successfully completed on February 27, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the project’s progress. On this momentous occasion, Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC expressed his sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Power, Government of India and the Governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam for their continued support. NHPC Limited, a Navratna PSU under Ministry of Power, Government of India, achieved two significant milestones during the intervening night of 31st January and 1st February 2026 at its 2000 MW (8×250 MW) Subansiri Lower HE Project in Arunachal Pradesh/Assam, further strengthening India’s energy security, grid stability and clean energy transition. The first milestone was the synchronisation of the 3rd Unit (Unit#1 of 250 MW) with the National Grid, successfully accomplished at 21:00 hours on 31.01.2026. On the occasion, Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC conveyed his gratitude to the Ministry of Power, Government of India, the Governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and former NHPC leadership for their continued support. He appreciated the Subansiri Team, led by Shri Rajendra Prasad, Executive Director & Head of Project and stated that the successful synchronisation reflects NHPC’s technical capabilities and contributes to grid stability. Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma has assumed charge of Director (Finance) of #NHPC Limited, a premier “Navratna” Power Company of Government of India, on 17thOctober’2025. Prior to his appointment as Director (Finance), NHPC Ltd., he has served as Finance Head of Commercial Division of NHPC and Chief Finance Officer of NHPC Renewal Energy Ltd. (A wholly owned subsidiary of NHPC). Presently he is a Nominee Director on the Board of NHPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL). He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) with over 30 years of post-qualification experience. He also holds a Diploma in Information Systems Audit (DISA) from ICAI, securing All India 3rd Rank. He was elected as Executive Body Member of Faridabad branch of Northern India Regional Council of ICAI during the period 2004-07 and served the branch as Chairman during the year 2006-07. He was conferred the award for ‘Best Chairman’ of Northern India” by Northern India Regional Council of ICAI for the year 2006-07. Shri Mahesh Kumar Sharma began his career in NHPC as an Accounts Officer from July’2000 and during his distinguished professional career spanning more than 25 years in NHPC, he has acquired extensive expertise across the core domains of Finance, Corporate Accounts, Treasury, Commercial and Contracts. His wide-ranging experience covers not only the Financial Management of large-scale infrastructure projects but also a deep and practical understanding of Tariff and Regulatory frameworks, which are crucial in the planning, development, and operation of hydroelectric power projects. He has served Regional Office, Banikhet and subsequently Dhauliganga Power Station where he played a very active role in large scale restoration works of Dhauliganga Power Station caused by the flash floods of Uttarakhand in the year 2013, successfully completed the challenging task of, accounting for restoration works, capitalisation of new assets, closure of contracts, insurance claim settlement etc. Thereafter, he served as Head of Finance at the Pakaldul HE Project, along with the additional charge of Finance Division of Two projects under survey & investigation namely Kiru HEP and Kwar HEP under Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (a Joint Venture of NHPC and JKSPDC). At Pakaldul Project, he handled Major Contracts (Civil and E&M) for construction of Dam and Power House which were awarded during his tenure at the project. Played a crucial role in implementing proper control systems for accounting of assets, employees and contractors’ payments in a non-ERP environment. Played an important role in resolving contractual issues and working out impact of GST on previously awarded contracts post implementation of GST Act in J&K. Over the course of his tenure, Shri Sharma has played a vital role in guiding the financial strategies of NHPC during diverse phases of project development right from Survey and Investigation stages to Under-Construction Hydro Projects and subsequently at the operational hydro power stations. His contributions include ensuring effective resource mobilization, compliance with regulatory requirements, efficient treasury operations and financial discipline in the execution of contracts and commercial agreements.
