A tragedy in Kebbi!
I am deeply saddened by the brutal attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, in which 25 innocent schoolgirls and our beloved daughters were abducted, and the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was killed while protecting the students. It is important to reiterate that the right to education is fundamental and must never be denied by violence or intimidation of terrorists and other criminals.
The security and welfare of Nigerians are the primary responsibilities of the government, as enshrined in our 1999 constitution as amended. This tragic incident reminds us of the urgent need for all tiers of government and security agencies to rise decisively in order to protect our citizens and safeguard our schools at all levels.
Thus, I call on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the immediate release of the abducted students and bring the perpetrators of this heinous attack to justice. On this note, I also want to call on the government to honour the amazing heroism of the late Vice Principal who, in an attempt to protect his students from harm, lost his life in the process. He is indeed a hero.
I am using this medium once again, therefore, to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the Governor of Kebbi State, the people of Kebbi, and the entire educational community in this difficult moment.
Finally, we pray to Allah to humiliate all the criminals perpetuating these evil actions and similar ones all over the country. May He continue to guide and support our security agencies to bring an end to these security challenges.

INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION
PRESS RELEASE
1,379,342 NIGERIANS PRE-REGISTER IN ONE WEEK AS IN-PERSON REGISTRATION COMMENCES TODAY
The nationwide online pre-registration of voters commenced on Monday 18th August 2025. As at yesterday, Sunday 24th August 2025, a total of 1,379 342 Nigerians registered nationwide in just one week.
As promised, the Commission is glad to publish the first weekly update of the exercise by providing details of the registration by State, gender, age, occupation and disability.
The breakdown of the online pre-registrations shows that 661,846 (47.96%) are male and 717,856 (52.04%) are female. Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 constitute the majority of the registrants with 860,286 (62.37%). In terms of occupation, 374,534 (27.15%) are students while the figure for persons with disability is 27,089 (1.96%). Full details have been published on our website and other official platforms for public information.
Meanwhile, physical registration kicks off today in our 811 State and Local Government offices nationwide. This will afford those who prefer the in-person option to register at the centres and those who chose the online pre-registration method to complete their registration.
Once again, the Commission appeals to the public that the ongoing voter registration is only open to Nigerian citizens who are at least 18 years old and who are not registered voters. Double or multiple registration is a violation of the law. However, inter-State/FCT and intra-State/FCT transfer of voters as well as the replacement of lost or damaged voters cards are allowed during the CVR.
The exercise will continue for one year until 30th August 2026. However, the Commission urged all intending registrants not to wait until the deadline approaches when, from experience, the registration centres are inundated by eleventh hour registrants amidst appeals for extension of time.

Nafisa Deserves Recognition: $100,000, a flat, and OON!
I read from various reliable sources that Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a 17-year-old student from Yobe State in Nigeria, has indeed been recognised as the top performer in English language skills globally at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom. She outperformed over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations, to win the competition. We are proud of you, Nafisa.
It was also reported that Nafisa is a student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State. This her achievement has sparked our celebration.
There is no doubt that her success can be attributed to her natural talent, dedication, discipline, and support she received from her parents and the schools she attended. Nafisa's achievement highlights her as a shining example of Nigerian students' potential to excel globally with the right opportunities and enabling environment. This kind of feat requires more encouragement from the government.
Recently, our women's football team won the Women's Africa Cup in Morocco. Each player received $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honour of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). In addition, our Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team, D'Tigress, was appreciated following their historic fifth consecutive victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship for becoming the first African team to qualify for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Pre-Qualifying Tournament.
I strongly recommend that Nafisa deserves $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and a national honour from the federal government of Nigeria. In addition, her English teacher deserves a reward similar to the one given to the coaching and technical team of the football and basketball players. We must continue to take education very seriously and reward the efforts of our citizens.
Interestingly, it is said that education is the passport to future development, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today through education and skills.
Finally, it is essential to always temember that education is the foundation upon which we build our future and the future of our country. Let's invite our daughter and the daughter of all Nigerians, along with her English teacher, to the presidency. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news that kidnappers killed around 38 people who were abducted in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
This atrocity occurred despite their relatives paying ransoms for their release. According to reports by national dailies, most of those killed were young people. As previously reported, In March this year, around 56 people were taken from a village in the Kauran Namoda area, and the gunmen initially demanded a ransom of N150 million, later negotiating it down to around one million naira per captive. While 18 people, including 17 women and one young boy, were released on Saturday after their families paid the ransom, 16 of those released are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Tragically and sadly, 38 innocent people were allegedly killed by the criminals.
We urge the relevant government authorities to remember that ensuring the security and welfare of citizens is their primary responsibility. It is also crucial for citizens to report criminals living in their communities, as these evil individuals are part of our society.
May Allah expose the criminals, be merciful to the departed ones, heal the injured, and bring an end to this inhumanity. May He give their families the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
Farewell, the people of Bonny Island, it's been a pleasure honouring your invitation. We are grateful to you all.
"We entrust you to the Almighty, whose trust is never lost."
